Shocked at exhaust

Hi fellow A2 fans. I now have my wife’s (vonnies) white a2 as my daily driver. Well a few months ago it developed a slight blow to the exhaust. With covid I didn’t get it looked at as it was far from noisy. Then my dad commented on it sounding rough so I booked it into my local tyre centre. They looked it up and down and then said we can’t do it mate as it’s modified mate. Well yes I guess it is modified as it has a cat bypass pipe fitted. The leak was a crack in the pipe towards the rear just before the axle so suggested it was welded up.
I found a workshop that did it the next day £20 fab.
But really Audi a cracked exhaust ! At 215,000 miles What great cars these really are. Happy motoring folk

In 2007 a company advertised on this forum that they had mistakenly bought a supply of A2 stainless steel exhausts and they were selling them at 1/2 price (from memory). So I grabbed one. It's still stilling on the self in the garage as the existing exhaust shows no signs of being life expired. How many others on this forum also bought one of the SS exhausts and do they still have them on the shelf!

Probably the miltec pipe a bargain I believe. I would purchase it if you decide to sell it Alan ?

In the early 80s i was on my way home with a empty coach so i called into falcon exhaust taunton, they were just making a batch of stainless exhaust for the RS2000 escort, i was shown around the factory and saw how they were made, i ordered one it was £80 plus delivery, its still on the car.

An excellent point. A few people have mentioned the flexy section failing but that is a wear item (my wife’s smart flexy failed after 2 years from new!).

My old Honda went though two exhausts in less than a year (the third lasted until t was stolen ).
