Signs of Oil

Today I wanted to remove the Oil sensor and give it a good clean and generally have a good tidy-up on the underside of the car, the undertray was in one piece albeit with a number of screws missing and some signs of a liquid on the underside of the tray.. not much but enough to arouse my suspicion that I may have a water leak, after removing the tray all I could find was some signs of an oil leak.

I have included some pictures to help locate the said leak.

The Oil sensor is intermittent when driving the car it will illuminate sometimes and then disappear and other times like the other day it stayed on for an hour and then the CCU decided that I needed to stop the car, which I did but only for a minute to switch the car off and on again, the light then went away and I continued my journey.

Apart from replacing the sensor is there anything else I could look at?

Regards

jae.

Meanwhile that's not great, compared to the age of the engine, could be worse. Do you lose a lot of oil? Probably rocker cover needs changing but that's very difficult, as at least for 1.4 petrol, the timing belt has to come off as well. I assume that's similar to 1.6, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I used to get the oil sensor issue as well, mostly when pushing uphill and that. I got the sensor, but also noticed the oil felt thick. I drive mostly short distances, so the oil can get dirty quicker than it'd, so it's more difficult for the sensor and oil pump to work properly. After a proper oil change, the issue went away. Now I check the oil quality more often.
Recently I'd actually changed the sensor, not for any issues though just to get it done, it's rather easy to change: disconnected the top, careful not to damage the single wire, remove old sensor, fit new one, slid on the connector, all done.

Okay, changed the oil and oil filter and had the oil sensor off to clean and refit, while I was at it I changed the two Ignition coils that came up as an error on the VCDS.

Seems to have cured the intermittent hesitation from the engine while at idle, I am yet to take it for a run and see if it still gets bogged down between 2000 and 2600 rpm, after 2600 rpm it starts a steady acceleration before that it like driving a tank.

The lower engine tray was a pain to get back on, I can see why they are left off after service, if you don't line-it up probably it just doesn't fit, and laying on my back and with only two hands it took a while to position in place.

Yeah that's good, and with the undertray is a tad tricky no doubt, what to do is to align up the front first, which slides on top edge of the bumper, than it'll hold its own weight, than you crawl a bit higher while holding it with 1 hand and start tighten the screw in the middle, the tray now should sit on it's own and you can go around fitting the rest of the screws.

Another tip, if you have to take your car to a garage which might involve tray removal, you'd do that before yourself, also the alloy caps if wheels need to come off, as literally everytime they broke something, no matter what garage I'd used, and they always tried to cover it up too.

Also if you got 16" 6 spoke alloys, the middle caps only line up 1 way, the extractor hole must line up with the valve or they won't fit properly, literally every single one of my caps is broken thanks those "mechanics", one of them even had an A2 and still managed to brake them, even tought I told them about it. If you know a good mechanics, stick with them.
