Social at Saltaire, West Yorkshire Sunday 22 May 2016

A2OC Donor
Discussed initial ideas about this social some months ago on a thread entitled ‘Regional Socials’. Now started a new thread as our plans are falling into place and it is most definitely open to everyone.

Saltaire is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, 4 miles from Bradford and 7 miles from Leeds in West Yorkshire.

Hopefully the location will offer things to do for partners and families.

Interesting model Industrial Victorian village to walk around.
Impressive Mill building containing shops, restaurant, café,
David Hockney Art Gallery and the Saltaire historical museum.
Next to the Leeds Liverpool canal for walks along the canal and boats

I have arranged with the manager of Saltsmill that we can have a cordoned off area in the massive car park for 30 cars during the day. This will give plenty of opportunity to look at A2s and enjoy meeting fellow club members.

Then we have found a nice pub 20 minutes away which will be suitable for a meal if people wish to go on there after 5pm. They can offer us a separate space with a pre-booked menu and there is a large enough car park.

Chb and Special Edition will be working out a route between Saltaire and the pub to include some Tour de France scenery.

If anybody needs to book accommodation, one option is the IBIS Hotel at Saltaire.

I will put up some more details after Easter

Hope to make this a great A2OC event in Yorkshire!

Hi all please click attending in the calendar link below so we know numbers thanks in advance mike

This is GREAT,

It sounds like a perfect social to take family along too.

Hats off to Hilary and everyone involved in arranging this (including the support from A2Sumo and Vonnie).

It is also good to have the socials reaching further North as well.

I am hoping that we will get a great turnout (I am sure we will).

I do like the direction that this club is taking, it seems to be growing gently without changing anything that is already working well.

I think it was Murdo that voiced the well known term "Evolution not Revolution" and that is exactly what we want.

This is a great opportunity to show that we really are a club and not just a forum.

Brilliant!!

Should be a good day out and look forward to being there! There is also the newly restored Victorian park on the opposite side of the canal and river and a Victorian cable tram about 15 mins walk away which takes passengers onto Shipley Glen and Baildon Moors for those who want to have a bit of a walk. The shops in the mill are a gem for anyone into interior design, designer kitchenware, books, unique designer furniture so be prepared to melt your credit card! Just to clarify the 'model' village is 'real' and lived in......

Looking at hotels. The premier Inn Bingley is 62 per night and the Ibis is 43 ( based on 2 nights family room) both got reasonable trip advisor reviews.

Hi for those that may have missed it there is a calendar link in the opening post from Hilary -- please click if your attending. cheers mike

We'll be coming, had to invite the dog to persuade the missus to come. That'll be an hairy boot then!!!
Any body know of a boot cover? Got one for her A4 allroad online, but not found anything suitable for the A2.
See you all there.

That gives you many different options and prices.

One thing to watch out for is that some of these are suited for A2s with a false floor and some are suited to A2s without a false floor (at least the ones suite dto an A2 without a false floor can be used in either (with the false floor removed)

Thanks Steve. Better get saving it's the most expensive one I think.

Can I please remind people that are attending this social to click the attending link via the calendar - link in opening post. As this really helps keep track of the numbers on the day. Cheers Mike

So today Hilary, Dave and myself took a nice sunday drive out to check out locations, routes and venue for the social.
The long drive also gave me an opportunity to thoroughly test out CC2 after a week of faffing and fettling!
Below are some pictures (teasers!) of locations and venues. The social is going to be a fantastic day out and it will be great to see many of our members there.

The Mill:

The park next to the Mill:

Boat trips from the Mill:

It's grim up North:

After all that Industrial Revolution heritage, it's a short drive (45mins) to the meal, there are a few hills......:

....but without hills you don't get views like this:

Our destination, with plenty of parking and (for those not driving!)a fine selection of Timothy Taylors ales:

Dave and Hilary found navigating me very hard work and had to sit down for a rest:

Hope to see you all next month!
We will be updating with post codes, timings etc very soon.

The drive out was very much appreciated, thankyou Conrad !. The locations are interesting historically and the views on the run up to the "Dog and Gun" are outstanding - a great find Hilary and I loved the smell of the roast dinner and Yorkshire Puds. Very much looking forward to this meet up now - it will be a good trip out for anyone thinking of joining us and all are welcome !.
