Right, that's us booked in for the Oriental Garden Chinese Buffett at 1pm Sunday. Its a great price at £8.95 per head for adults and £5.95 for children and when the social went there last year the food was lovely.

If any members are meeting up on the Saturday night for something to eat, then may I join you, please? Last time, I went solo to Wetherspoons in the Centre. It was O.K. and I did speak to people, but I would appreciate your company this time .....

That was brave David. I wouldn't go to Merthyr town centre without an entourage of muscle :)

I'd be up for that - just not at the Chinese as we'll be there Sunday lunchtime :) I'm staying at the Travelodge just next to it, I believe @Teresa is staying there too. I see your hotel is the other side of town, but the town centre looks to be within walking distance from both. Wetherspoons again but with company this time? Or try and find somewhere else, I'm happy either way.

Just so that everyone has an idea of the itinerary:

- We’ll meet at B&Q Merthyr Tydfil CF48 1HY for a 10 to 10:15 start

- Then travel via the Abercynafon reservoirs to LLangorse Lake

- If the flood waters have subsided then we’ll get chance to have a walk around the lake and take in the sites, if not then we just get to have a tea/coffee at their coffee shop.

- We will then head off to the B4560 Mountain Road via Llangynidr where we will make a stop off at the top of the mountain to take in the views.

- Then we are heading back to Merthyr Tydfil to the Oriental Chinese Buffett for our lunch at around 1pm.

- After lunch @stevec will be offering a run up to the famous Penderyn Whiskey Distillery. Even if you are not a drinker, it’s worth the run up because it cuts through a nice area of the Brecon Beacons.

- After this, it’s time to head home after you’ve hopefully had a nice day. For those planning their return journey, the postcode for the distillery is CF44 0SX

Well, on a Saturday night, it seemed that it was the only place in town! VERY busy but the food was fine! I wonder if A2Steve might know of somewhere to eat in Merthyr? Obviously, I'm able to travel, anyway .... (So it doesn't HAVE to be Merthyr?) Anyway, thanks for your offer of some company for the Saturday night ...

To be honest, most of the places to eat in Merthyr are centered around the retail park where Ian and Teresa are staying. They are just the general chains like Harvester, Nando's and a Dragonfly carvery.

Has anyone attending this social got a spare sport spec centre caps they would be willing to sell to another member who's attending?

Hi everyone. I'm unfortunately going to have to pull out of the trip. I've been laid up with flu the past couple of days and as having a shower sent me straight back to bed today, I'm probably not going to be up for the long drive. I'd also be very wary of passing it on, as it's proper nasty. I go from freezing cold and shivering, to boiling and sweating buckets. I've only been able to eat a pear since Monday (the plus side is that I appear to have lost half a stone!)
I'm really sorry, as I know how much work goes into it. Unusually for me, I'd booked a flexible rate on my hotel, so could get a refund. I think there was talk of a deposit for something food wise, so I'll get in touch with Steve separately to make sure he isn't out of pocket.
I hope you all have a fabulous time and I look forward to seeing the pictures x

WOW is it bleak, looking out of the window, now! But that's North Wales! Lets just keep hoping for GOOD times at the Weekend, Eh?

David

The snow has pretty much already melted away. It should mean however that the mountain tops are still white at the weekend which will make it more beautiful.

@DJ 190 and I are both staying in Merthyr Tydfil on the Saturday night, is there anyone else staying or living locally who'd like to get together for a meal in the evening?
