I would like to commit to one of the little wonders, but need frequently to load 4-5 timber panels which are either 1050 x 1050 x 20mm square or around 700 x 1300 x 20mm rectangles, or frequently a mix of both: trade samples to show folk.

I dont suppos these will go at all w/o folding the seats ( what size panel can you get in the boot vertically?), but any comments on this load-ability would be highly appreciated.

The alternative motor seems to be tghe barking Fiat Doblo!

Have a look at this page (from the club site). There is a technical drawing with the interior sizes in it.

Good luck. And: don't go for the Doblo ;) You call that an 'alternative'?!

...an alternative to a sensible, well-built motor car, most
likely, but something deeply illogical is tugging me towards it.

Dont worry though, I am from a VAG family, my grandma worked for Ferdinand Porsche at Austro Daimler 80 or so years ago! I am not likely to waiver, but I cant afford an S4 and am hoping an A2 will do the trick, but its probably not quite big enough.

Cant quite deduce from the tech dwgs so next stop test drive.

best, pat

Take the A2 out for a test drive and swing by the local DIY and try it for size. Any dust/shavings you drop keeps the valet in a job!

My dealer let me out on my own in an A2 first time we met. Very trusting.

My dealer let me have an A2 for nearly a whole day and then another half day on another occasion! I said that, being a photographer, I needed to know that I could get all my gear in. Dealer said "sure, load it up, mess about with the seats, take it on a job" I often have to take paper bacgrounds which are 4ft long and they fit in a treat!

You take one rear seat out completely, keep the 2nd boot floor in and wind the passenger seat down fully...

more power is always useful... especially when overtaking...

Bad news: you can only just get a 1000mm square panel into an A2 and it has to sit in the passenger footwell, on the thing that looks like a transmission hump. You cant really get 3/4/5 of them in at all.

After having the car for the w/e me and my girl both want one...can you get a roof box big enough to take 1050 x 1050 x 50-100mm high?

The alternative... well, I just dont know at all, their all kinda naff, and they'd cost a lot more run as a Co car.

Downcast.

fjpe,

you could put the wood on a roofracks. But the A2 is limited to a maximum weight of 30 kilograms on the roof.
Can't you fit the panels in when the backseat is entirely removed ??

I suppose there is the option of a trailer, but fitting a towbar to the A2 is an art in itself!.

Runboy,

And the A2 can only tow a very little trailer. Can't pull two horses with it...

Maybe Audi will start publishing weight-to-wood-to-horses in the back of the brouchure soon;)

You can get a 1m x 1m panel into the back, with the seats in place, but it only just manoeuvres into place and you'd reallly roger the door seals doing it on any regular basis, esp if you have lower back probs like I do.....
Weather being what it is they'd have to be protected if roof-racked, and each panel is around 15-20kg, so I'd only get one....

Trouble is my girl now wont accept any othre car, certainly not a gas guzzling estate, so I'm a bit cornered!
