Space saver or tyre sealant?

I've read a few people expressing their concerns over the can of tyre sealant. It seems to me, most people are happier with the reassurance of the space saver tyre in the boot. I’m just wondering whether this is actually the general consensus in this forum and also if there are any positive stories of the tyre sealant working properly?
I’ve ordered my A2 with just the can of sealant and am wondering whether to call up the dealer and ask for the space saver instead. Any suggestions? Ideally I’d like to keep the boot free for my luggage.

Space Saver is a no cost option demand it! then sell it on here or trade it for some tyre goo, Just a quick thought though do you get the compressor with the space saver as that is quite handy.

The 145/80R14 wheel and tyre from the 1.2 litre diesel model could be used as a spare. The specification of the steel rim would be something like 14" diameter, 4" wide, ET35 offset. Any Audi parts department should be able to order the rim.

The original equipment Bridgestone B381 tyre in this size is listed on www.mytyres.co.uk

The rolling circumference is similar to the standard 175/60R15, 185/50R16, and 205/40R17 tyres so won't affect the gearing or speedo reading.

I've had two punctures so far... one I could have used the goo... the other was a 2inch gash on the sidewall... there is no way on this earth goo will get you home then. Thankfully it happened in a Heathrow car park and Audi rented me a Mondeo for 4 days as they tried to find tyres... but had this been Scotland... Get the spare wheel mister... The goo comes standard and if you need the space you can leave the wheel at home if need be. But when you do venture far and wild you always have it with you. I is a no-cost option and I also demanded they give me one (as I bought a brand new pre-ordered Audi car that did not have the spare).

I did Fitting Guide 2 days ago as to how to fit the spare wheel bracket in the boot if your car does not have one. Stuart will publish this soon... the bits from www.vagparts.co.uk are about £26.

The space saver spare is a no cost option but it has to be ordered with the false boot floor, if it's not an SE, which is about £100 option.

Space saver every time! I hit a brick on the motorway in my previous car ( just appeared from underneath a car I was about to overtake). Tyre was OK but alloy damage meant tyre deflated. Goo would have been useless. Also goo is inappropriate for any sidewall damage. I have an SE which has the false boot floor. Storage space in the rear of the car has never caused me a problem (so far!)

I have to say, no spare,no peace of mind.

I hear the goo makes it impossible to do a permanent repair on your tyre.

I had a space saver tyre until I found you are only supposed to use it for 50 miles/80km. I needed a spare that I could use for greater distances, so replaced it with a 16" full-size spare. It does fit (just) but eats up even more of the boot space.

Space savers are only supposed to be for emergency use but there is no legal limit on how long you use it for. When I asked I was told that as long as it had the right tread depth it was OK.

The only legislation they breach is the requirement for the same size tyre on each side of an axle and "i am waiting for a replacement tyre" should get you out of that one. A neighbour ran his Seat on the space saver for a month without problems.
