Speed Sensitive Radio Volume

Can anyone confirm this for me. It relates to 2002/2003 A2's with Concert II single slot CD headunit fitted as standard.

Do you find that the Gala "speed sensitive volume" works?. I only ask because on both my previous and present A2, no matter what setting Gala was on, the volume did not change.

Is it another one of these features where Audi have not put in the necessary cable between revs and radio to save a bit of dosh?. Or just my bad luck in having 2 A2's with dodgy radios?.

Runboy, does this have to be switched on somehow as there is no change in volume when revs change in our 'new' week 40/2002 build A2 1.4 SE

You can set it via the radios menu under the Gala setting (1 to 5 if I remember, and probably 0 for off). But whatever number it's on nothing happens!.

Ir worked on mine, I had it set to 5, I guess mine was a 2002 model year, registered in June 2002.

Mine works. It kinda creeps up on you .

What are the chances of having 2 A2's where it doesn't work?.

With odds like that I'm going to win the lottery for the next 12 months every time........

Another one on the list for Monday when they have the car back again to do work.......

I'm applying for a job at Audi-a job for life!

Steve - Try to think positive. If you do not play around with these things you will never know that they do not work. Surely this makes sense ?

Can't say I've ever noted any difference in my A2 or A6, having set it up as per instruction booklets...maybe it's VERY subtle!

JD-exactly what the misses says to me late at night.....

I double checked the manual and setting of GALA this morning and it didn't make a scrap of difference to the volume-it must be that subtle that you could stick a mask on it and call it the SAS.

The speed sensitive volume in my Punto is only slight - but still just about noticable, at least when you actually are accelerating onto a motorway. I think the A2 has a more configurable system with GALA, so maybe it's a dodgy sensor or firmware in the stereo...

I was gonna ask the exact same question. I had to double check in the manual to see what no. it had to be on to be the most noticable, but yet I cant tell any difference, and being a musician, I think I should be able to tell if its getting louder or not.

It is subtle. Set it to 5 for the largest effect. I noticed it most after driving on the motorway at 85 ish - sorry constable, 65 ish - then when coming up the slip road to exit the motorway and slowing down rapidly the radio was too loud initially, but then quietened down.
If you can hear the radio at all road speeds without adjusting it, then Gala is probably working fine.

To test it, remember to play some music with fairly constant sound level.

I think I have got this working (upped it from 3 to 5), but the effect for me also doesn't seem to be immediate as martinw rightly suggests (trip on the motorway also highlighted it to me).

I agree with Martin W. I thought my GALA was not working until I realised I was not constantly fiddling with the volume control when going from traffic jam to high speed roads and back.
