Speedo not working.

My car throws G201 abs pressure fault every now and then with fault lamps but clears upon restart, abs is odd with its fault lamps!

I always thought the abs was like airbags in that all fault codes and lights needed a code reader to reset them

Is there a fix for the abs light being on ?

not yet car is laid up. I am waiting a new abs sensor as after splicing new abs wire to old wires in engine bay the abs light is still on. No VCDS code shown. Brake pad wear lights on but no place to connect them so going to short 2 and 24 in blue socket in Dash. If it is still on then after the new sensor and shorting I will replace the bearings. there is a vcds code 00283 which suggests left side (my passenger side) but the wires rubbed through were on the drivers side. Maybe vcds left means looking from the front at the car.

Are you saying you had exactly the same problem i had?
My car is year 2001 so spedo not a problem. Your pic of the ABS wire being rubbed through was the same as mine (Drivers side) exactly which I only discovered when changing the Brakepads. Brakepad wear light and ABS and stability control lights were on on the dash. VCDS gave 00283 code
00283 - ABS Wheel Speed Sensor Front Left (G47): Mechanical Malfunction. My car is RHD so the drivers side rubbed through fault did not show on VCDS unless VCDS left means looking at the car from the front not from the drivers seat.

I'm surprised at that as thats a much smaller wheel and tyre combo than mine, although overall wheel / tyre height could be the same . Could it be that these abs looms are just too long?!

Ref this old thread, the looms were certainly too long on early cars, particularly if 17" rims were fitted - https://www.a2oc.net/community/index.php?threads/abs-esp-warning-again.3325/post-162186

Cheers Spike

Thanks for this Spike, much appreciated! I knew i was onto something, just needed someone to come along and provide the evidence cheers!! It begs belief that Audi even released cars like this. So much for CAD design, it all looks good in theory but in practise obviously not. I remember a time when manufactures used to road test their car extensively to iron out nonsense like this.
