Sports seats with lumbar support

It has now become a fine custom Tom for you to sit for a while in newly fitted seats and enjoy the fruits of your labours. I bet you hold the record with the amount of A2,s youve actually "sat in"!.

Just back from the Brighton to Torquay to Brighton run for Dads funeral.
Not only do the new seats look good but they are also very comfortable.
No bum or back ache after three and a half hours.
Thanks Tom

Hi, what Audi front seats can I fit in my A2?
Regards

TT seats are about the only ones that can be adapted but there is no aftermarket fitting kit so it's a case of making up your own brackets.
There are posts on the forum showing how others have done the conversion but the A2oc don't endorse the conversion as it could be a legal nightmare if someone was injured in an accident because the seats came adrift.

Cheers Spike

I would recommend sticking with the A2 seats and having them recoditioned or upgraded.
If you adapt seats from other cars to fit you may well find that you lose your "up and down" adjustment and the reclining adjuster can often be in the wrong place.
In addition to that you may lose your lumbar function

I have Golf recarros in my A2 and they are great seats, but I had to get the heated seat and lumbar functions swapped over and tgat was not easy or cheap. I have lost my height adjustment and the recliner "knob" is difficult to reach when sitting down. But I do like the seat shape and comfort and I have been able to mount iPad minis into the headrests.

But as I say, it will be a conpromise and you might be better to not swap them.

Spike is spot on too. Adapting seats has a safety impact too. Not just with the airbags (your new seats might not even have these) but most important of all is the mounting. If that breaks in an accident it doesn't matter if you are wearing a seat belt or if you have airbags. They will not help if your seat comes away. Let alone the risk to you of the seat breaking away.

Unless the car left the factory with lumbar support, there is no provision for this option. The only plug-n-play retrofit is heated mirrors; all other options require an additional wiring loom to be installed. Sport seats can be fitted to any A2, but, without an additional wiring loom, the lumbar adjustment will remain in the position it was in when the seats were removed from the donor vehicle.
I've made and fitted countless lumbar support looms for club members and will happily make another for your A2.

Cheers,

Tom
Hi Tom
Just picking up on this topic.
I just fitted sport seats that have lumbar support. I need that loom.
What's it like to fit.
Depending on cost. How much is the loom and the fitting.
Or can I fit myself.
Best regards David

Evening David,

Here’s a couple of links to assist you in seeing what’s involved for the retrofitting of the lumbar loom if you fit Sport seats into a SE (un)equipped A2:

Good Afternoon David

Further to Tom's post and something to think about. When I bought my FSI back in 2009 I did the new owner play with buttons/critically assessed buttons. Pressed the lumbar switch, weird lumbar sensation panicked and stopped. As it happens it turned out this accidental setting is ideal for me, seat very comfortable and have seen no reason to press it again in over a decade. The point being is it worth the effort to install a PERMANENT loom to be used probably once when something temporary will suffice to set it to suit?

The wiring is a simple two wire affair and I know Ian (@Proghound) put together something to plug into the cigarette lighter or maybe a simple fused supply from the passenger footwell live bolt and earth anywhere while you set it.

My solution relied on having the correct connector with a loom end from a lumbar-equipped car, to attach to a 12v plug with a length of lead, using DIY chocolate-block connectors. In the absence of an A2, I'm sure other Audis/VAGs of the era must have the same connector for their lumbar circuit. But I have also adjusted lumbar (carefully) with just two wires run from the terminals of a battery before now. I need the lumbar on max the whole time which would be very easy just to set and leave set.

We made our own loom and managed to get the connector from A2steve as he had a breaker (we also had his sports seats). The connector had about 6 inches of cable, so we simply soldered extensions on and went to the correct fuse position for lumbar. Very easy.
However, we were also fitting heated seats at the time and the interior was stripped out making things easier. Worked a treat though.
The lumbar connector is the red one coming out of the carpet.
