Spring cleaning pepperpots but nasty balancing stuff?

Hi
I am trying to give my winter pepperpots some love now once they are off the car.
But I find lots of old adhesive from balancing weights on the visible surface.
I am trying to scrape off the worst with my ice scrape but its hard work, followed with some aceton.
How about yours, are they balanced in the same less appealing way?

They can be balanced on the inside, I have a set balanced on the inside and one on the outside, wd40 breaks down the adhesive

I find it quite unbelievable that anyone with more than half a brain would put balancing weights on the outside on alloy wheels where they are visible ??

I think maybe some fitters see them as steel wheels or something but I see it a lot on pepperpots

Yup mine had them on the outside too when i bought them.

To remove the glue pads best bet is to use Tar and Glue remover soaked into a soft tissue or cotton pad and place onto the glue for a period to soak in. Come back to it after 5 to 10 minutes and it should be a lot easier to remove. A Scraper will just mark the wheels.

The best adhesive remover for balance weight is 3M 08984 Adhesive cleaner. Expensive but very good.

Will have to be hanging over the shoulder of the balancing man next time then. :)

They don't like it but yes that is exactly what you need to do, and is exactly what I used to do ?

Luckily for me the tyre garage I use put the tyres on the rims for me then let me use their balancer to do them myself, so I know they're absolutely perfect ?

They probably got sick of me looking over their shoulder and thought just do it your bl..dy self ?

Guess working in a tyre centre makes you tired...... It's hard to find people that are gentle with tyres and rims, and take care of them.
I was sick of it, so bought myself a tyre changer on muscle power and a 2nd hand balancer.
The balancer is driven by muscle power too, but balancing itself is done electronically, and was defective.
Cleaned circuit board and gave it some TLC and a new 9V block battery, works a charm.
Ordering tyres online now, and I'm the only one who's touching my rims...... And the kerbs of course ?.
