Spring differences OSS vs non-OSS

Hi meriafel, yeah I will give the Koni shocks a wide berth (odd that the much-praised Vince at Stealth Racing does not have an aversion to them. It was he in fact who suggested them to me)
I meticulously studied the prinz site and cross referenced the Bilstein part numbers from their website and put together an order which included 4 new B4s (Fronts 105813 - Rears 106120), 49515 front springs and bump stops and dust cover kits for both front and back (my rear springs were only replaced last May for MOT failure, assuming the garage used OEM springs I'm hoping they will not need changing to match the Bilsteins). I still need the top mounts kits and the Febi brand seem recommended, however prinz don't appear stock them, so I may have to order elsewhere.....

Re. my current order for Bilstein B4, Spidan etc from www.prinz-autoteile.de I received an email this afternoon from [email protected] stating that as he was going to be in Coventry for a few days he had looked how far we were from Coventry as he would have delivered the order personally. Quite an extra-ordinary offer!

Well that's customer service above and beyond. So he's in Coventry.....perhaps that's why he didn't reply to the email I sent him ;p

I was chatting to Vince a couple of months ago about the Koni FSDs & their rust issues, and he mentioned that they'd recently redesigned the way that they are painted (I don't recall the details now, but maybe now powder coated rather than just being painted?). Additionally he mentioned that they were now replacing the rusty FSDs for free.

I'm probably going to be putting in new suspension this summer (since as far as I know most of my current setup is 12 years old barring one spring) - most likely the FSDs if they've solved this particular problem.

Hi,
do you have information on how to proceed to claim for a replacement ?
My front FSD's are now off the car (replaced by Sport Koni's), so that would be easy for me to return them.
Thanks :)

Hello. Im in thougts of getting a new suspension for my A2 as well.

I have a TDI90 with OSS. I would like to lower my car a little bit as well at the same time. What is my best choice? I live in sweden so we have a lot of salt on our roads during the winter time. I have read a lot bout the FSD rusting and some roumers now say they have improved them. What is my best bet for a suspension that can lower the car a little bit and at the same time improve the OEM feel as its the part that Audi didnt have time to develope properly.

No idea, sorry. Vince was the person who'd fitted them originally to that customer's car, so I would suggest talking to your original vendor to start off with.

A2 Cars Limited has been appointed as an official Koni distributor and we stock and fit their range of products.

In the past, Koni did suffer from corrosion issues on their dampers and many members have seen this on their FSD's. I personally took this issue up with the Koni UK and can report that Koni warranty will replace any such damaged component to the original purchaser with proof of purchase through the selling outlet. Koni had, and still has, a lifetime warranty on their FSD damper kits.

The stock coming out of the Koni factories now have a new coating treatment applied to them and Koni is confident the issues have been suitably addressed.

I have Koni FSD's on my A2 in combination with Weitec springs in front and standard SE springs at the back and I do recommend them. The drive is akin to that of a go-kart. I have said I punish my car when I drive it - but it just begs for more :D.
Boy, do I love Milton Keynes' roundabouts!

This is the reply I got from the place where I bought them :

There is NOT a lifetime warranty on Koni FSD Dampers in the UK.
I have confirmed this for about 20 customers this year.

The rumour is caused by one or two bad companies in the UK who are advertising them as being lifetime warranty.

It is impossible to cover a mild steel damper body for a lifetime warranty as mild steel only naturally corrodes.

Kind regards,

Dusting off an old thread....

Has anyone ever fitted the Spidan 56830 front springs? I know the 56833 for the rear are to be avoided, but the GKN spec for these fronts leaves me a bit confused: They are described as suitable for TDi with Opensky, yet the the wire diameter is smaller (11.25mm vs 11.5mm) and the wound diameter slightly larger (141mm vs 137mm) when compared to the 49515 type (for vehicles without Opensky). Both of these should make the spring softer than the 49515, which isn't what I'd expect to see. Free length for both is the same, at 338mm.
