spring ride height

I know the firmness is different on the rear springs but is the ride height the same on all A2 models from 2000-2005,as i have a broken rear spring and have found a pair but different colour coded...

Ride hieghts do differ on different models, like SE and Sport - BUT the springs are colour coded for a reason.

If you get a set of springs for a different axle weight category then this will affect the ride height.

EG: If your car is lighter than the weight ranged stated for the set of springs your planning to buy, then your ride height will be raised, due to the spring being made to function with a set weight on it.

So if you are replcing audi springs you need to do it like for like

Hi John thanks for that..spoke to the chief mechanic at Stoke Audi who told me the spring length was the same on all models?? i know the shocks are different, but on the back of that he said changing the a pair i wouldnt probably notice as mine is an se and im not racing it,well i bought the pair of genuine rear springs fitted last night even though different colour to mine and havent noticed any diffrence.Paid £45 delivered for the pair of OE audi bargain...

It probably makes less difference to the rear than to the front, where most of the weight sits.
I experienced driving my FSI (heavy cast iron block) with springs made for the 1.4 petrol (aluminum block) and it was way too soft.
Nevertheless, rear springs for a bare nude 1.4 petrol won't probably suit very well a TDI90 with leather, aicon, opensky, towing bar, etc. (or the other way round)

I know the lengths are the same, with exception of sport model, but the properties of the spring itself, ie compression force etc will be vaired dependant on the wieght range of the vehicle.

Would you know the variation of the ones have have just bought the colour code are 2 orange,1 green,2 blue...just out of interest.

Right

According to ETKA parts

Those colours are from springs PN: 8Z0 511 115 R

The are for use on A2's up to VIN no. 8Z2 070 000

They have the following codes attached to them, which can be found on the spec sticker of your car, in boot or service boook:

0YH - Rear axle class 8
1GA - Standard Suspsension
G08 - Luxury suspension, sports package
G07 - Luxury suspension, standard

John,

From Igor web 1GA, G08 & G07 all specify "Front shock absorption" - is this an error and the codes refer to both front and rear springs?

I also notice there is another related code L01 - Suspension range 01 installation control only, any idea what this may be

Thanks,

Andy B

I'd say I am not very impressed with that chief mechanic. The part catalogue has many color codes for the springs. When shopping for them I see different spring lengths (and thicknesses) for my 1.4 TDI. Engine type and car equipment level matters (e.g. panoramic glass roof)

Just guessing, maybe he means installed length, rather than free length? Even so, he's still wrong, Sports are a different fitted length, so, not all the same. Hope his boss (senior chief mechanic perhaps) doesn't read this thread!
Mac.

I'd be more concerned with the truth :) It is not good for anyone if the chief mechanic spouts nonsense to customers when asked for advice. A good boss would correct the behaviour.

Blimey can’t even remember this post
