Squeeking Koni Springd (FSD?)

Dear A2 connaisseurs,

Before I upgraded to my current A2, I used to drive a Citroen C3 that I retrofitted with yellow KONI sport dampers and springs. Even though the handling improved dramatically, fitting the new dampers also resulted in squeeking springs.

I am now contemplating to retrofit my A2 with FSDs, but am worried that this may also result in unexpected and unwanted side-effects. Can any of the FSD users tell me whether or not they have experienced squeeks or other unwanted side-effects?

Thanks for checking!

Yours,
WJ

I had an Audi dealer replace a broken spring on the passenger side and it creaks on full lock. I recently did the driver's side one myself.

One thing I noticed is that you need to be sure that you get the spring seated properly against the stopper at the bottom of the strut. If not, the spring can move and creak.

Once I'd realised that, I had a good look at the one the dealer did and saw that there is about half an inch between the spring and stopper:mad:. Obvioulsy the spring moves slightly and creaks. Don't think I'll bother fixing it as it's not that annoying.

Something to look out for if you plan on doing them yourself.

Hi WJ
I fitted Koni FSD's and kept the original springs and there are no squeeks or rattles. They don't turn the A2 into a limousine but offer an excellent balance between comfort and handling without any negative side effects.
I changed the top strut bearings at the same time as they are prone to partially seize and cause a creaking noise. The rear bump stops were also replaced as they were severely worn

A quick thanks to Schnelletrecker for telling us about FSD's (and so much more) I'm sure most of us would not have been aware of these excellent shocks without his many mails on suspension mods

Cheers Spike

FSDs and Weitec Springs all round.

Had these professionally fitted by the boys at Awesome back end of October last year. No issues, no side effects - just improved road holding and a more comfortable drive in general.

Cheers,

Darren

Hi WJ

I can confirm that I have not experienced squeaks or other unwanted side-effects.

Standard springs and FSDs on a diesel.

John.

I'm one of the earliest UK A2 owners to fit the FSDs so I've probably got one of the oldest pairs! No creaking or strange noise. But of course, Robin and the boys at Stealth Racing did a very good job fitting mine. Echo Spike's comment on the benefits, you should be able to see plenty if you search. Thanks Schnelletrecker!
