I have had an email from ACS Cooling, in Ukraine, and the 032 121 065 D coolant pipe, (aka "Death Pipe"), will be available from them, in a couple of weeks time, at around 30 Euros. They already make the same basic part, for other VAG vehicles.
My understanding, is that we would pay UK VAT on arrival. As long as order total, including shipping cost, does not exceed £135, (approx 180 Euros), we'd pay no duty. (Happy to take advice on this).
Mac.
If you're interested, this link is to the ACS Cooling website.

Thats good news!

My FSI needs a new head gasket, caused I think by overheating after several coolant lines failing, so I think I’ll take the opportunity for a full overhaul and try and get some silicone hoses made too perhaps

Shipping would be much cheaper, per item, if we bought a batch. We'd pay, I think, 4% duty, but the saving would, probably, be more than that.
I've no experience of Group Buys, and wouldn't, personally, organise one. Happy to share what I have with anyone who would like to take it on though.
Mac.
Edit: I'd have one myself.

As stated, If the total invoice comes to more than 180 euro (inc shipping) then the the additional costs can stack up quite quickly especially if the vendor cannot charge VAT at source. I have recently bought some seat material from Germany and the additions of currency conversion fees, customs duty, Import VAT and customs clearance fee constituted an additional 33% over the invoice total.

Morning Mac,

If no one steps forward to assist then I’m happy to present myself to pull the group order together for you Sir. I’ve done a few now so quite happy with proceedings.

The only caveat would be that I couldn’t dedicate time to it until January which isn’t too far away I suppose.

Let me know your thoughts or if you have someone else in mind to assist, I can easily take a step backwards if not required!

Kind regards,

Tom

Just wondering if any A2OC member, in Ukraine, could help with arranging shipping, using local courier?
@ukrainian can you help us please?

Hi Mac,

Since communicating with team behind the 3DcolorMFD offerings; they have since put me in touch with an A2 owner in Ukraine who has a reliable way on getting items to me from Poland and Ukraine.

In short, the method of delivery it’s quite similar to what Colin does for us in the UK but on a European scale. To not clog up this thread any further I’ll DM you shortly with specifics of what’s been an absolute success so far.

Kind regards,

Tom

I'll update the thread, when ACS let me know the part is available to order.

Brilliant news. I've recently had remedial work done by the lads at B&F Autos and the car is running smoothly now though haven't swapped in the stock ECU (still using the ProBoost) to see how that goes.

I would be interested in a group buy if it transpires it can give us all a reasonable saving.

ACS Cooling will soon supply a pre-production part for our approval, before accepting orders.
So, we need sn FSI engine, that it can be test fitted to, as soon as possible. I'm less concerned about the coolant tightness, than I am with the physical match to the OEM part, and it's actual fitment to an engine.
It would be ideal, I think, if anyone has an FSI engine in, or better, out of the car.
ACS is estimating delivery within a few weeks.
Please let me know if you can help, or have alternative ideas.
We won't be able to order, until we have passed it off. So, over to you.
I can't help, as I'm not able to do any serious spannering myself.

Hi there, I am currently overhauling my FSI engine & it will be coming out of the car on Tues 10th Dec. to do the cambelt etc & I also want to replace the death pipe & fix an oil leak fro the sump area.

I am a retired engineer & have experience of rebuilding several race & road cars, so am confident that I could assess if the pipe proposed will do the job or not & aim to have my engine re-fitted & running by the end of January 2025.

As I am in Luxembourg, shipment to me could pose less of a problem than shipping to the UK, so I would be willing to test out the pipe & reoprt back. I was thinking of contacting the company concerned myself anyway, but do not want to tread on anyones toes on this project, by doing so.

If I am happy with the pipe they propose, I would be more than willing to act as a delivery point for a quantity of their products & would be able to bring them to the UK on my next visit, which would probably be in March 2025 at the latest.

Mac, as you seem to be the co-ordinator (?) of this project, please can you let me know if this is the way you want to proceed ?

I hope this will in some way contribute to the A2OC, which is a great source of help to me so far, in the running & upkeep of my FSI.

Best regards.
Martin
