Anyone experienced problems with the start/stop function in eco mode on a2 1,2 tdi??? I have now tried for several times, that the engine doesnt start up again, when it is in start/stop mode.

The 1.2 TDI ECO mode restricts the power available to 41 bhp and changes the gears up early unless the accelerator is floored to give kickdown full power acceleration (61bhp). The stop/start mode is normally activated if the car is stationary for 4 secs with the footbrake on. As soon as the brake pedal is released the engine should start again and revert to ECo drive mode.

There are several factors you need to clarify gronkjaer:

1. What is the engine temperature when you try this? When cold the engine will not use stop/start even if Eco mode is selected.

2. IS the Airconditioning switched On? If it is Off or set to Economy, the s/s mode will work but not if Aircon ON normal mode.

3. If the drivers door is opened when stopped in Eco mode, the engine will only stasrt again by key with lever in N postion and parking brake on.

4.Stop start will not work if too much electriacl load is present: eg: lights+stereo+_aircon+rear window defroster to stop battery being overloaded.

5. Stop Start will not function if outside temperature is below 0 deg C until engine has been operating for 1 hour.

6. The Eco mode is deactivated with gearstick in Tiptronic mode.

I hope this helps. Any more problems see your dealer!

If the engine doesn't start up again that's definitly a problem that should be sorted out by the dealer.

I haven't completely understood when the engine will switch off. Very seldom it happens that it doesn't switch off although I believe all requirements have been met.

The requirements mentioned in the SSP 223 are (I'll leave away the ones mentioned in the manual):

- pressure in brake system >= 4 bar
- engine coolant >= 17°C
- generator usage <= 55%

And sometimes it switches off even if aircon is running.

Hi,

I had really big problems to start the car, it started after 10-20 trial and it could easilly stop when idling (in N). This was two weeks ago and the car had 33,000km. Audi-service used one day to hunt the problem and then they decided to replace the controller board of the gear box.

Now the car starts and idles, but it needs _sometimes_ really long time (about 5s) before it starts after an automatic shut-down. Earlier the car started almost immediatelly after releasing the break pedal... Maybe the program has changed or is this faulty behaviour?

The stop/start mode is normally activated, when the car is stationary for 4 secs with the footbrake on. As soon as the brake pedal is released the engine should start again, but when it tries to start, its like the starting engine is not running fast enough or long enough. The starter is just running for apprx. ½-1 second. Is this normal, or could that be the reason??

Sounds like a problem. Some sensor is sending wrong info or the program just turns on the starter for too short time. In my case the car doesn't even try to start for 5 seconds - then it suddenly turns on the starter and so we go!
