Hi,

I have lost all power steering and both symbols are showing on dis,
It started when I removed the steering wheel and sensor to Change the ignition switch!!!!

Im located by Heathrow airport and am looking to see if anyone could recalibrate the sensor for me, for a fee of course.

Many thanks
Ryan

Hi Ryan,

I can see what I can do via VCDS to help, it might not be until Sunday? Would that be ok?

PM me your details and I will sort something out with you (FOC is the only way I operate by the way!!!)

Did you remove the steering wheel? If so, could you have removed the steering wheel angle sensor, turned it and then refitted it? If so, then that's causing the system to go beep beep. If I remember correctly there is a circular window on the sensor that shows when it's straight.

I did try to not rotate the sensor, and yesterday I stripped it down to double check everything was as it should be.
I'll strip it down again today and check that little window, what does the little window display when the sensor is in the right position?

Thanks
Ryan

Hi,

within the middle rotation the window shows a coloured dot. Once it goes more than one rotation either side of the middle position the coloured dot flicks out of view and only black can be seen through. I think the colour of mine was orange but the important thing is that when reassembling with a straight a head position you should not see black in the window.

Andrew

Well, just checked everything and the little window was displaying a yellow circle, rotate either was and it goes out of view, so yellow circle showing everything put back together fingers crossed it just needs recalibrating!!!

Thanks Andrew

I will report back with an update

Cheers

I lost the setting on mine when I had the dash out to replace the G263 sensor but can't recall if the yellow dot still appears in the window when it's 360 deg out of alignment.
No recalibration was necessary after giving the sensor a full turn and refitting the steering wheel to the original scribe marks but Vagcom was handy to identify the problem and work out which way to turn the sensor.

Just got back from Ryan's and unfortunately it looks like it is the sensor that has gone.

It was stating "Adjustment not possible"

Read the measurements in VCDS and it was reading 0 (should be -4.5 to +4.5)

The sensor movement felt jerky and not smooth as it should be.

The orange dot was where it should be and turning the sensor through 180 degrees or so saw it disappear, turning it back it reappeared and then 180 degrees in the opposite direct saw it disappear again.

So Ryan is on the look out for a steering angle sensor, I can then calibrate that and get his car back on the road.
