steering angle sensor

Hi Guys
My steering angle sensor is defunct and I managed to source a second hand part but this proved to be faulty too following a vagcom check when fitted. It's the only reason our little car failed its mot and I am considering a new sensor but its not cheap circa £270 plus labour to reset faults. Anyone reputable out there that can provide one that works at a fraction of the cost? 2002 1.4 tdi with 187k on the clock still going strong. Keen to get it back on the road! Thanks

Need the results from a full VCDS / Vagcom scan to see exactly the errors. not just a case of fitting the "new" sensor as some setting up / calibration is required.

thanks Audifan. The fault had been detected some months ago as a faulty sensor (code error 00778). The used part wasn't responding either and and couldn't be set up or be calibrated but fortunately, I have been refunded for that. Having spent a pretty penny on a new injector and wiring loom in January, I'm a wee bit reluctant to splash out again.....

The steering angle sensor fail is not common, and with the replacement part giving the same result, I'd think the fault may not be with the sensor itself, but with the brake controller, (or wiring), which it communicates with, or in your case, doesn't. Are you seeing ABS or ESP lights on the dash?
Mac.

Hello,

On Thursday, I'm driving up to Aberdeenshire to attend an A2OC social event. See here for details...

There are those who regard me as being reputable. This is me...

On Thursday, on my way to Aberdeenshire, I'll be stopping in Dunfermline in order to install cruise control for a fellow A2 owner. Falkirk is basically on my route, so I'd be more than happy to add another stop to my journey and help you with your A2.
I have the necessary parts in stock, plus the dealership-level software required to do the swap. Furthermore, it won't cost anywhere near £270!

The time at which I'll be passing is a bit up in the air, as I'll have plenty of final preparations to do before I can set off from my home near Lancaster. However, I anticipate that I'll be in your area by mid-to-late afternoon.

If my proposal works for you, let me know and we'll make more detailed plans.

All the best,

Tom

I haven't heard back about the above proposal. However, I will pack the necessary parts such that this remains an option until the last minute.

I will be returning from Aberdeenshire on Monday and once again passing Falkirk, so this may also present an opportunity.

All the best,

Tom
