steering warning light permanently on

I have a 150,000 mile A2 1.4TDI bought new in 2001.
Recently I have had the power steering pump and the steering rack replaced.
Despite this, the car still sounds a warning tone and permanently shows the steering fault signal when the ignition is turned on.
The technician in the garage which fixed it says that the diagnostic reading he gets suggests that the steering position sensor is faulty and needs to be replaced.
Is this likely or is there any other, more likely explanation?
Can anyone help please?

Chances are that the steering angle sender needs to be adapted to the new pump. It's a software job, performed easily by anyone with a fully-featured diagnostic tool such as VCDS or VAS 5051.

Cheers,

Michael.
