Stiff to open door

Opening my drivers door is getting harder. I really need to pull on the handle (the middle is best) to open the door. The other doors are fine.

Any ideas what might be causing this and how it can be fixed?

Hi Simon,

Is it sticking on the rubber seal around the door? or is it the door hinge or door handle that is a bit stiff?

The door rubbers are easily lubricated with some silcone lube spray, which can be bought from any car spare shop (incl Halfords!). If it is the hinge or the door handle I will defer to those who know better! But I would guess that it is just a case of lubricating the appropriate part with the appropriate grade of oil.

Just to add to David's comments, if the problem is with the initial 'unlatching' of the door then its possible the striker plate on the door pillar just needs adjusting. If its stiff throught the full arc of the door travel then try a penetrating lube on the hinges.

Sorry guys, its the door handle that is very stiff. Once open, the door is fine.
