Stored Error code P2108, plus intermittent horn.

Hi folks,
As a newbie, having introduced Myself today after lurking for quite a while I went to collect the A2.
Got the new (to me) A2 home and put an OBD2 reader on.
Only 1 stored code (thankfully) generic P2108 $10 Throttle actuator control module performance (see attached pic)
Is this something of concern?
Any advice welcomed.

It goes for its MOT on Monday and in checking it over in readiness for the MOT, the horn wasn’t working. Worrying.
Checked 25A fuse in position 8, and the OSS roof was working so it wasn’t that. Pushing hard at the top of the wheel central button makes it work, but anywhere else it’s a non sounder. Is this a steering wheel switch issue or a horn issue would you think?
Your advice will help me here I am hoping.

Final question (for now) what are the symptoms of DMF failure? I’m really not sure.

I think I have a vibration (of course it could just be 17” Wheels with low profiles and the three cylinder tdi motor) but it feels odd to me. Turned off radio and ac to listen.

It seems to lessen with length of the drive, and with a gentle building of any speed rather than open throttle acceleration. I could of course be paranoid.

I’m just eager to get this one in good fettle.

help, please.
Cheers,
Matt

For Throttle look at the article https://www.obd-codes.com/p2108 it's probably worth clearing it and see if it comes back after giving it a spirited drive.

It sounds like horn will be stuck/mucky switch on steering wheel if after some massage it works - not taken that bit apart yet, could be someone spilled some hot sticky coffee or something?

A2 does not have DMF so nothing to worry about - would be similar symptoms as a cloggy exhaust lumpy running low on power etc.
EDIT - ignore this had a brain fart, was thinking about DPF as was looking those up for other car....

Would be worth checking engine mounts - mine are fairly perished so will be on a lookout for main engine mount at least - doing dogbone improved it a fair bit, as most are aged engine gets more wobbly in its little cradle.

Welcome to the forum and A2 ownership. I see you have a TDI 90 (ATL engine) which does have a DMF. Search function on the site doesn't do three letter searches so best to Google a2oc DMF or similar. My DMF is making a general rattling noise as tickover in neutral though stops when the clutch is depressed, I also found this from @murdo regarding his failing DMF ...

*Vibration and percussive grinding noise when car is idling.
* Juddering through clutch pedal when disengaging/engaging - especially when moving off from a standstill
* General increase in noise and vibration which you may/may not notice as it's a progressive thing ( or was for me anyway)

taken from this thread...

Did you mix up DMF and DPF?

To Add - mine had DMF fail and i did not notice too much additional jitter and clutch pedal has had a slight shake after replacing it as well... When replacing the DMF it had coughed up most of it's spring bits and everything jamming clutch in gear, looked like someone bashed poor things teeth in... wrestled the thing off the motor for odd 3 hours to remove gearbox. Only difference after replacing DMF/Clutch was that clutch pedal felt so light i thought i didn't put it back in correctly or forgot to attach something.

@damadgeruk yes i did indeed - edited the post not to confuse anyone else, been reading on the topic of DPF just prior to replying here :/

Sorry, I didn't look to check you had ATL too. How noisy was your DMF? Did it fail or did you catch it before?

It absolutely failed - it had a bit of a shake but honestly did not feel much different from the new one oddly enough - it gave up after going back home in a somewhat flooded M1, i guess it couldn't tolerate the extra load on it...

Housing was chuck full of spring bits and clutch plate had snapped in few places - there are a few pictures in my threat somewhere about the whole fun of it.

Edit - that's the one - https://www.a2oc.net/community/inde...lutch-issue-looking-for-thoughts.40622/page-2

@Special edition - When Merlin's DMF was on it's way out where the symptoms similar to those being experienced here?

@MattSnap as your car has done 161k miles I would suggest that if it hasn't been done already, it is due and very likely to be the cause - I would take heart though, once done there's no reason it won't last the life of the car (assuming <300k miles total that is! - and 161k is a very respectable "score" for the DMF on these - It would suggest that it's been driven carefully, I've heard of them failing around the 100k mark for less kind drivers.

As the gearbox has to come off, I recommend you consider this the time to decide whether a six speed gearbox upgrade is for you - grab a cuppa and read through this thread.

EDIT: Snap this up - You'll never get it cheaper! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FOR-AUDI...141635&hash=item3d869f75eb:g:AZ8AAOSwDElb5rWV

That's seriously cheap (£326.19) though I'm slightly concerned the with the 'LUK quality' comment and the lack of LUK part number. I've contacted the seller to confirm it is LUK part 417 0047 10 as I'll be buying one to add to the growing parts mountain. Will update.
Update: seller responded affirmative, part is LUK 417 0047 10, I'm going to make an offer, will update, again.
Update 2: seller accepted offer of £320. Thanks for the heads up @dj_efk

I didnt actually realise that the DMF was failing on Merlin...the garage told me after a service David. It must have deteriorated slowly over a period of time and I never noticed if I,m honest.

Yep I saw the comment but then he lists the brand as LUK so decided it must be genuine - glad it is!

Thank you folks for your input.
So to update.
Horn was a switched earth issue behind airbag.
Code was a legacy code.

The vibration was from loose rear wheel bolts!!! And missing bolts!!! All sorted now.

But will get LUK DMF as per eBay list, and already have cambelt and water pump, plus purple correct coolant, rear hubs discs and pads to do.

Oil and all air filters already done.
Will do 6 speed at DMF, along with egr delete and stealth remap.
Will also get the a2oc upgraded intercooler.

The cars a keeper, and is running well.

Thanks for everyone in this forums input and support!

If doing cam belt I'd recommend checking if it is friction or hydraulic tensioner - mine all part shops listed as friction but when it came down to it found the hydraulic option. Also make sure you get bolts for the crank pulley as those will need renewing. Have a look at my post as I'm having some good fun with mine.

And if doing the cambelt, it’s due it’s oil pump chain and sprocket replacement too - cheaper while it’s apart.
