Hi all .. having been looking for a new car earlier last year with plans to start a family.. myself and sarah went out for a spin in Robins A2 .. really nice car and were instantly hooked .. we had thought about a focus or similar but instantly loved the practicality of the A2. We went on the hunt and Robin managed to find a nice tdi 90 in bradford . 04 plate ..Akoya silver 73000 on the clock ... Good service history and really clean .. we went to look at it ( straight after a 10 hour night shift and bought it back with us . First thing we did was a full service including brakes all round down at stealth and of course the compulsory remap .. absolutely loved it. The difference it made was awesome . We then proceeded with a few mods .. rear cup holders .. centre tray .. heko wind deflectors to stop that awful wobble ( i was introduced to that when robin told me to wind the window down racing back on the m42 ...jeez ) . We attended a few shows with the good people on this forum and instantly made some really good friends .. .. the A2 became more sarahs car than my own .. as is usually the way lol so that was it time to find my own ... after speaking to A2Sumo and Jeff at ADI i knew i wanted something different and not go the usual way with the A2 .. so the search was on ... i noticed one alot of people had commented on and found it in an old watchlist of mine on the bay .. wasnt for sale but thought i would just send an email to the owner and try my luck .. what do you know .. deal done over the phone and another trip to bradford for Robin and myself and another one graced the driveway at our home .. this one is an 02 plate .. silver .. heavily modded with the addition of what i thought was a fairly decent airride system .. 4 repairs to it later and lack of being able to use the thing .. A2sumo put me in touch with lord Calvin who immediately told me to rip it out and start again .. so that was that old system out only saving the airbags and a new v2 digital system was installed .. costly but worth it .. Calvin Robin n the crew worked their magic to get it done in a day .. gave me so much confidence back in the car .. just the last bit of the install to do when the 2nd compressor comes the weekend and its finished . Its due to go on show on the AITP stand at Edition 38 in april .. one of three cars on show which im genuinely chuffed about . One thing i would like to say though is thank you to the people on this forum for the help and advice that both myself and Sarah have recieved since joining this club .. managed to grab some parts too which has saved us a fortune .. so grateful to this club long may it continue ... Great looking A2. Looking forward to seeing it at ADI this year if you are going. Congrats on starting a family, get the mods in now before a baby comes along because they soon eat in to any money budgeted for modifications to the car :)

Hi mate ... baby on the way .. due just after AITP .. will be at ADI we hope ... one way or another lol .. still working out the next change i want to do ... zippy

Congratulations :) You'll be doing well if you know what day it is for the first 12 month after they are born but the whole experience is fantastic. Best wishes to the both of you.

Thank you ... due round 20 august .. cant wait .. certainly go na be a life changer but well worth it ... and at least we dont have to worry about looking for a car .. the A2 will certainly prove its worth now lol

Hi Redbull .. how do you find the fitting of a child seat .. is there anything in particular i need to look for .. long way off yet but just being prepared .. cheers

We never had any issues with childseats in the A2 - in fact we downsized to our A2 from an A4 Avant when our 2nd came along! Rear facing, then front facing Maxi Cosi seats for when they're tiny, then into the "booster seat" devices for when they're a bit older. We didn't bother with Isofix, although the A2 does have Isofix mounts in the rear.

Just a word of caution about the front seat and the passenger airbag. Some A2s have an optional extra which was to be able to de-activate the passenger airbag, should you ever want to put a rear facing childseat in the front passenger seat. If you don't have that, never, ever, put a rear facing childseat in the front. (in fact, we never put the childseats in the front anyway - it is pretty distracting for the driver, and if they get into the habit of always sitting in the back, it generates fewer arguments when they're a bit older!).

Congratulations. There's thread about researching child seats for the A2 from 2008. I'll look for it. I think Dan and myself had nippers circa the same time. Product will have been upgraded by now bu it should still serve as good guide.

For Stage 1. I'd highly recommend the maxi cosi rear facing seat with cabrio fix isofix base. You also get adaptors so the seat fits into a range of buggy frames. Very safe and clicks in and out with a single button. We've just finished using ours with child number 2. There won't be a third!!

I would offer it to you however it's not recommended to use second hand car seats. There is also something about the age of them ref the safety element. Marketing hogwash probably but that's the advice I recall.

In a couple of years time the law is changing so that all child seats have to be rear facing until 7 years old. It won't apply for the first seat as they are pretty much all rear facing but its worth bearing in mind as some seats can go from baby to toddler. Harriet (19 months) is now in a Brittax Maxway (one of the safest on the market) and that really did fill the back seat of the A2 to the point where only someone around 5ft could fit in the front passenger seat hence our second A2 got changed for a scenic.

How on earth do you engineer a rear facing seat for a 7 year old. My 6 year old is on an isofix booster with the seat belt lowered and it's very secure. She's probably average height for 6. I'd have a war on my hands if she was to travel any distance facing backwards!!!

edit. Sorry for the swerve but it is relative I suppose:eek:

I know, it sounds stupid but this info was from the specialist who installed ours. It is already in force in other european countries apparently. It may be to the age of 6 mind, I was told last year so my memory isn't great.

There is a new I-size regulation that extends the rearward facing regulations to 15 months, but I'm with murdo here... Seven years??? I find that incredible if true.

We had a lie flat car seat when the boy was young. It was part of our pram. Each end was fixed via a sear belt and the boy was strapped in lying down.

It was a must for the Beetle.

Thanks for the advice guys will look into the seat you suggest .. got a few months yet but no harm in being prepared . So many variations offered on websites but wanted to check here first ... just in case anyone had come across anything .... excellent now i know what to look for ..thanks again

A few pics of this weeks install to the boot ... spent a day with Calvin working on getting the car sorted ... really impressed with how well its turned out ... now running 2 compressors and have had the lower boot done with mdf ..trimmed in suede ... centre panel in grey is hinged providing access to the battery and v2 system .. side bars have been removed and new pieces fabricated which still leaves me able to hide everything under the false floor giving me a functional boot ... lot of time and effort put in by Calvin to get it just right .. pics dont do it justice ... car is now a million times better than what i started out with ...
