Strange happening with my lights

First of all this situation I'm about to describe happened after a night out with my workmates on Friday. It was a good night and I'd had a few drinks, and I'm sure it was not my imagination!

My wife dropped me off in town, and drove the A2 home and left it parked and locked on the drive. I eventually made it home by taxi at about mid-night. As I said, I'd had a few drinks, but I was still fairly sober (honest!).

The strange thing was that the number plate lights on the A2 were on, but no other lights were on - just the number plate lights alone! No other rear lights or front side or head lights - just the number plate lights!

So I got into the house, got my car keys, opened the car and switched the lights on and off again, then checked the number plate lights again, and they were off!

So the question is, are there any circumstances where this could happen? (Or should I be joining Alcoholics Anonymous?!)

I had a situation where just the rear number plate lights were on.

It was when I was changing the main headlight switch over to one which sarge kindly sent me.

I'd left some of the under dash trim loose so couldnt push the main headlight switch back in properly (i.e. clicked all the way in). If you are familiar with how to remove the headlight switch you will know that pushing it in and rotating it (cant remember which way) releases it.

This had the strange result whereby it wasnt clicked all the way in so the switch couldnt rotate around to the normal "off" position and this left just the rear number plate light on.

Quite why im not sure.. luckily it was dark and someone came and told me before the morning.
