Straw pole. Washer jets.

I have the opportunity to “upgrade” to the later oval washer jets, from the original square ones.
Not sure that is really worth the hassle, so what do others think?
Oval or square, and why?

Prefer the oval ones as the spray jets can be set more accurately to the area you want washing but require a lot of patience to get just right. I have mine set lower than recommended when stationary but when driving the water is pretty much ideal. I also have the inner jets almost crossing over to spray the opposite side of the screen. The square ones are easier to adjust by moving the plastic lever.

Whichever ones you prefer go for heated jets as this also helps clear the traffic film off easier.

Must admit that if I had the choice of any washers type I would prefer the spray bar that fits onto the wiper blade or arm as that gets the water onto the screen every time without the wiper arm getting in the way of the jets.

Ever tried washing your windscreen at more than 30mph with the square jets? Almost no water hits the screen! Also with the ovals, you can aim them so at least one of the twin jets gets water on the screen in advance of the wiper arm getting in the way. If you aren't already aware, the conversion to oval washers requires the later scuttle, this is often the harder part to get hold of since they don't post well, being both awkward-shaped and delicate.

Morning Simon,

Totally agree with Graham and Ian above. If you already have the correct items to conduct the swap then just do it. This enhancement is one of the first things that I do to a new addition to the driveway due to the inadequate screen coverage of the square jets

Let’s not forget that Audi was loosing money on every A2 sale, yet they still considered this a necessary area for redesign.

Of note: If you wanted to add the 2 wire heating loom (happy to provide instructions as this is an easy retrofit) then I actually have a spare pair of heated oval jets with connectors and a bit of loom available.

Kind regards,

Tom

Yes please Tom!
Mac.

I like the square ones and always thought they were great compared to other cars. No issue washing at speed either. Never actually used the ovals thou will ask DaveM next time we meet to show me what I am missing lol

Evening all,

Yes Graham is correct above; they are indeed handed. To assist you Audi have even put L and R on them to ensure you don’t fit them incorrectly.

The above part numbers have been superseded so still available new. Probably plentiful in a breakers yard on earlier A4 and A6 vehicles.

Kind regards,

Tom

Hi Tom, as you have posted they are indeed marked for their respective sides. Reason I said about the larger cut out for the outer jet was some have yet to understand how parts are defined as for left or right. It is always from the drivers seat facing out the windscreen so right is anything on thr right side of the driver, left is anything to the left front is in front and rear is not surprisingly to the rear.
