Supercharge or Turbocharge that FSI???

Hi,

Anyone know if there is a way to maybe supercharge or turbocharge the FSI 1.6??? I know that the engines with FSI technology can be tuned to use turbos, but how difficult would it be and are there any tuning companies out there that offers this type of upgrade?

Wonder if Stealth Racing would be up for this? Robin?

Failing that, AMD Technik in Bicester do most things, but they're a bit pricey.

Cheers,

Could be done but not simple or cheap - especially if you want the engine to last, and it still has to pass emissions testing at MOT.

Basically when you turbocharge you need to reduce the compression ratio, the turbocharger makes up the rest. This means mechanically changing the engine (e.g. spacer between block and head or different pistons . . . ) and hence a complete re-map and potentially lots more changes like a bigger radiator, clutch, gearbox, brakes, and for the weight new springs/dampers . . . . . For example VW 2.0FSI has compression ratio of 11.5:1 but the 2.0 Turbo is 10.3:1.

Probably cheaper and easier to look at putting another engine in (e.g. a 1.8T or the new blown 1.4)

as ianjohnsonws14 says not cheap to reduce compression
could use two head gasket to lower it
would be better to put 20v turbo but still not cheap but poss if you got the dollers lot's of them!!!

I'd be interested to know what difference a remap makes - not necessarily in terms of power but driveability - especially if remapped to 98 octane fuel - it might make it even rougher on 95 but would probably feel much smoother when run on the proper stuff. The factory map will be written to make it run OK on both and also it won't take account of the individual differences in components etc. I wonder if we could get a group discount, its too much money as it is.

AMD remapped our FSI at the same time as fitting cruise 18 months ago.

It gave about 10bhp and 10lbft more on their rolling road. Proabably a bit more economy and less hesitation pulling away from rest, and it revs a bit more freely.

Good set of guys a well, if a bit pricey.
