Symphony double din issue

Hi all I am trying to fit a double din into my 2005 A2 , I connected up the unit with the 3 plugs in the car all black , I could not see the red plug in the car which I believe is telephone /Nav connection labled on unit , I input the radio code but display said TELEFON and cannot go no further.
Any ideas what the issue could be?
This is the Symphony unit I am trying too fit which I think is version 1?

My Dads A2 has the symphony unit double din and I think his 2003 A2 has the red plug in his car
His head unit looks like this one.

If that is a symphony 1, not sure if they are compatible with the canbus cars. I thought the can bus cars all use generation 2 radios. Hopefully I am incorrect here.

That does look different to your dads so I would say it is a generation 1 symphony and your dads a generation 2 unit. A2 was introduced in November 1999.

I actually like the look of the 1st Gen Symphony and feels well built compared to Symphony 2 ,
I wonder if I can get it to work on canbus vehicle?

Someone previously fitted a single din pioneer system which looked terrible, So I sourced a double din stereo the one I am trying to get to operate.
From what I can see people have powered up that symphony stereo on the bench and from the display have got a radio station , So I guess must be a feed etc to get the Symphony 1 to work on my Canbus Architecture.

On the bench there is no canbus so gen 1 will power up. Simple answer is fit a gen 2 radio or satnav unit.

There was a web site with loads of Symphony 1 and 2 info but it's recently changed and you need a Google account to access it
I've not tried the new site so not sure if it's still relevant

Cheers Spike

Not sure if it can be accessed now but this is the full link https : // sites.google.com/a/lee-hicks.com/nsxjr/documents

Had to add 'spaces' after https and before sites to stop it going straight to the Google shortcut

Cheers Spike (computer skills zero)

Hi thanks for reply but link does not appear to work , Have you managed to access the site your end?

Hi NIC NAC

The old link which I've posted on the Forum many times in the past changed recently and as we have found, the new one does not work. It contained many PDF guides on Symphony 1 & 2, RNS-D and RNS-E upgrades.
So far I've had no luck in finding the Symphony 1 to 2 upgrade PDF

Not relevant but I did spot this PDF - https://penti.org/~harald/audi/RNS.pdf

Cheers Spike
