Synchro going....going.....poo

Yet another problem to add to the list
Had a new clutch last month and now just had it confirmed a synchro is on its way out. Noisy gearbox

So, choices are
1. Sell the car
2. Rebuild this gearbox (circa £600 plus)
3. Source new gearbox and hope that one is ok. Think my tdi is the EWQ code

Had this happened last month I would have saved at least £200 as I've just had the clutch done

Argh, that's not good, and the timing couldn't be worse as you say.
Must be related to the over-boosting map the car had previously?

Option 4 - rebuild the gearbox and add in the 6th gear mod at the same time?

Sorry to hear of your woes, Jason.
What's this map that Dan speaks of? Is this something that is likely to happen to all of us over time, or has your car got history?

I like Dan's 4th option. It'd certainly cost a bit, but at least you'd feel as though you were getting something for your money.

Cheers,

Tom

Jason's car seems to have been subject to a remap by a previous owner that pushed the torque output far beyond what is reasonable - had problems with the engine running into limp-home mode when giving it the full beans. It certainly felt a lot faster than my (mapped) car in the mid-range when I drove it originally but was at the expense of tripping the safety parameters!
I think Jason posted a thread on it last year sometime when he got it mapped again.

Might have to sell some wheels to fund the gearbox rebuild. Anyone want a set of newly returned TT Comps
Might look at a longer 5th but not interested in 6th as it's costs are almlst what my car is worth

Option 5: Get another A2 and break this one up for spares - seeing as you've done so much work on it of late?

Ah, I see. Thanks Dan, I must have missed the original thread.

I hope things are resolved soon, Jason, without too much expense. I'm afraid I don't have an EWQ box kicking around (other than the one in my car!), otherwise I'd happily push it your way.

Cheers,

Tom

Dan's 4444th post!

Not a bad option if you've got the space and the time. You'd quickly make your money back simply selling things like the headlights, etc. You could also get a car with working OpenSky! :)

I have the same box and I have had the synchro replaced on 4th gear.

I lived with the issue for about a year and saved up for the recondition circ £900.

This was a 20k miles ago.
