Tandem pump vacuum help

You're welcome,

When they've replied, hopefully tomorrow, I'll update the thread with what they said. (Merlin Diesels)
🙂🤞
I'm not filled with confidence with their feedback score.

Had the same problems with a luk pump back in 29/12/16.

Just received this reply
Dear valued customer,

Thank you for your interest in our store.

In order to check the fitment, the technical team would like to see the part number on your old pump. Please provide the same to assist you better.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Kind Regards,
Sajina

Sound like a AI robot answer?

Just tried to reply to the message in eBay and it won't send messages it just shows an exclamation mark.

Let's give that company a miss, they are incompetent.

eBay thought the part number was a phone number and blocked the message. I've sent them the part number.

Hi,
You may have picked up on the three TDI engine sizes 1.4, 1.6 & 2.0 use the same pump.
Is there a scrap yard near you on Orkney?

There are other sellers on eBay but these are not Bosch branded pumps. The design is the same but the manufacturing quality may not be as good.

Here's one, a Pierburg pump (a good quality brand) located in Germany.

Is anyone able to source a Bosch tandem pump? They seem to be very hard to find online and autodoc are out of stock

I think Bosch no longer manufacture these pumps. That was my conclusion when I tried to source one for another member some months ago.
There is a new supplier, so hopefully Bosch sold their tooling and rights. I was going to compare the features of the pumps available and hope to spot a non Bosch Bosch but the need went away. The key features are a cast cover plate and the vac connection, nothing else causes problems.

Ok, I'm going to take your advice on that one. If they seem decent then I'm happy to go for it. Also very reasonably priced. I did find a febi bilstein pump but It was £450!

Yes I gathered it's a fairly common pump.

I'm asking my spare parts if he has one kicking about. Do you think they are easy to refurbish?

Such a shame... I suppose something else ought to last 15 years?

Give merlin a call
I have had great price and service from them
That's what I wanted to hear, someone stepping up to recommend the company, great job @donp38
What did you buy and why was it great service?

Still waiting on a reply from Merlin, it is early days yet🙂

I've bought many of the Bosch tandem pumps with part number F009D02799 from Merlin diesels to fit TDI90 ATL engines. They do need a spacer added to the air intake but the pumps do otherwise fit and have been flawless.

I also have a very good condition LUK pump from an ATL engine. The vacuum spigot doesn't even wobble. I'd want £100 for it posted.

Ok so probably wouldn't need a spacer for the amf engine because there is more space I believe? Anyone know if this would be the case?

Hi @fin199
Probably for the best if you ring Merlin diesel, I'm not getting a quick response to the questions I have asked via eBay.
😄👍
EDIT 02/05/25 another reply that does not attempt to answer the questions.

Dear valued customer,
Thank you for your reply.
I have forwarded the details to our technical team to check the compatibility of the pump with your vehicle. I will let you know as soon as I get a reply from them. Also, I have asked for the actual photograph of the pump.

Kind Regards,
Sajina

I've read the thread from start to finish and not seen why you concluded you have a pump failure?

However at the price of the Bosch on eBay that @rotifer II posted, I would just buy one if the car is a keeper. The eBay seller is Merlin and the pumps are more expensive bought direct. https://www.merlindiesel.com/product/vacuum-pump/

One Bosch tandem pump on an AMF, I don't know if the numbers mean anything:

Edit, the Audi number for the Bosch sold by Merlin is 038 145 209 Q. Perhaps somebody with a bit of time could check 7Zap?

Well it's not exactly a failure but the spigot was very loose so that must be allowing a lot of air in and affecting the vacuum pump effectiveness. Also there is a oil leak so I'm not sure if that's the gasket between the pump and the cylinder head or the pump itself. It seemed like there was no assistance with braking occasionally... Which could potentially be the pump or something else.

They posted guaranteed delivery before 12.00 ( or something like that).
Arrived next day at around 08.30.
Great price also
Super 10/10 service.

Pump from merlin diesel has arrived. As stated above, fantastic service! Very quick postage and only £184 which seems very good Value. F009 D02 799 is the part number which they say will fit. I just hope it does!
I ordered it though eBay but did phone them to speak to them and they gave me the following part number which is compatible with the AMF engine
