TDi Gearbox Fault??

My four month old 1.4 Tdi had a problem getting into reverse, this happened twice before but on the third occasion today, the car had to get towed to the local dealer. They have said the car needs to have the gearbox replaced. Has anyone else experienced similar problems?

Yes, also trouble selecting 1st and 2nd the gearbox was changed

It’s always been my humble opinion that the gearbox on the diesel model somehow has shown itself to suffer less problems than the petrol version. There have been numerous complaints generally on the difficulty of selecting reverse gear, however being slightly “difficult” is poles apart from being impossible – which is apparently your situation. This being the case I fairly believe you are the first on the forum to experience such a problem.

It can be quite difficult getting the diesel to reverse.

The problem (on mine) is not in the gearbox but in the guideblocks that guide the gearshaft.
