TDI oil pump drive chain tensioner kit change

Hi all. Just had a complete oil pump chain tensioner and pulley change on my 2003 plate 1.4 tdi sport. The car engine wise is completely standard.
The cost for the parts
1x febi bilstein oil pump chain tensioner and pulley kit £142
6.5 hrs labour at my local vw/audi specialist £280.
They showed me removed parts.
Tensioner was in relatively good condition but chain showing signs of bad wear due to this

Very useful info, cheers. What mileage is on your car? Any particular reason for the job or simply peace of mind knowing that it has been done?

I have changed the chains on both the TDI s recently one was on 282,000 the other 164,000 both needed doing and they are both much smoother now. I think as the chain stretches it allows the counter balance to move out of it's ideal timing position causing the engine to get rougher as it wears.

Did you have the sump baffle replaced ? both of mine snapped the clips that hold it on when removing it, they where brittle form the heat. I also replaced the crank oil seal and numerous once only use bolts .....

Car has currently covered 125k. Originally just booked car in for service and mot. But having read reports on here and other vw/audi sites on the 1.4 tdi engine, i decided to have this done as a precaution. Very glad i did now.

I don't know. Garage that did job didn't charge me any extra for parts. So i assume they managed to remove, replace without damaging it.

Wow , you can clearly see the wear in the 1st photo ,and it missing a tooth on the gear, at the 11 o'clock position!!!!!, looking at this and the cost , via how much my ATL 90 is costing to rebuild.....wish I had known this earlier in the year.

I would suggest this is a planed service /repair job at cir 140K miles , linked to a cam belt swap , water pump swap.

This is a powerfully bargaining tool for TDI that are coming up to 140K miles , Ie the best part of 1K of engine works, with the cambelt , water pump etc , or evidence of the works has been done , add in a replacement DMF for the ATL and we bumping in to 1.5K at this mileage

Any other thoughts folks.

also no VVT (variable vain turbo) to worry about on the simpler TDI75 engine, VVT was only fitted to the TDI90 (ATL engine)
