TDI90 Turbo Problems

Hi everyone,

I have been reading the other threads on various turbo problems.

I have 2004 tdi90 sport

Mine started a few weeks ago with the apprehension and slight stutter around the 2500 rev mark and then I lost the turbo whistle and have more of a sucking sound and finally the turbo disappears intermittently but works if you stop switch off and restart. I also now have the Emissions Control light on as well!

I have run VAG com it told me the fault below:

VAG-COM Version: Release 311.2-N

Control Module Part Number: 045 906 019 F
Component and/or Version: 1,4l R3 EDC G000SG 5418
Software Coding: 00002
Work Shop Code: WSC 02138
Additional Info: WAUZZZ8Z04N016130 AUZ7Z0C2509760
1 Fault Found:
17964 - Charge Pressure Control: Negative Deviation
P1556 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent

Can anyone please help.

Thanks in advance.

Regards

Darren

As a starting point, check the fault code on the RossTech web site - http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Category:Fault_Codes
In your search for turbo problems you have probably already come across most of the possibilities for low turbo boost ie split aftercooler core or pipework, sticking VG turbo vanes or problems with the actuator / control system

If you have not already seen it, I just posted this info on VG turbos in another thread - http://www.a2oc.net/forum/showpost.php?p=106088&postcount=9

Thanks Spike,

I sat down last night and read through all the threads.

I have had the cam belt changed about 2 months ago. I have had a look and all I could find was a big inter cooler pipe clip to the engine undone and the small black pipe with a clip not mounted half way up the back of the engine.

The turbo cleanup looks a good option.

I think it must be a leak!

Well it is now off the road for a while whilst I get my wheels refurbished, tires, and brakes replaced.

Update

I have been looking and checking at all the thin black pipes are OK and I could not see anything wrong! In fact the looks immaculate at the back of the engine.

I checked the exhaust for leaks, all OK.

I checked the intecooler junctions both ok.

I was starting to think about taking it to the garage for a pressure test. I was looking at the thick rubber pipes to the turbo and I thought they would not take long to strip off and inspect for leaks.

I took off the first black pipe from the bottom of the intercooler and

Bingo!:D

A big long split.

I did notice a black oil substance in the intercooler pipes is this normal?

I will order the replacement pipe today.

Hey hey, glad to hear it was a simple pipe split - in my experience the sucking sound you described is always indicative of a boost leak on the high pressure side of the turbo.

Sounds about right.
In wonder if/ when someone will start to investigate getting some custom Samco reinforced silicone hoses made up for the boost circuit on our TDis as instances of boost leaks start to get more common with age...

How does one go about getting samco to make them up??

Would have to be a big order to make it feasible
