An LED is out on the circuit board beneath. Possibly a bad solder joint or similar. The man who will know the most is @timmus and he may also be able to help you out via postal services.

Hi Alasdair,

Your instrument cluster motherboard has a fault, as this clearly isn't normal. Sometimes this fault is caused simply by a failed LED, and sometimes there's a less obvious cause. One way or another, I can repair it, and it's not an expensive job.
If you have the necessary tools, knowledge and confidence to remove and refit the instrument cluster, then the repair can be done by post. Of course, whilst the cluster is 'on holiday' at mine, you won't be able to use your car. As such, I always aim to do the repair is promptly as possible, to minimise downtime.
If you're willing to bring the car to me, then I'll do the repair whilst we have a chat. I'm an hour's drive south of Gretna. I've driven through Cupar countless times because I studied at St Andrews, so know that it's about 3.5hrs away.

Kind regards,

Tom

Many thanks Tom for your speedy reply and explanation. The car will be off the road at the end of January as I will be in Spain for a period. That would be a good time to send you the instrument panel for repair. Do I contact you then via this web page or do you have a contact number? As a matter of interest did you attend the University at St. Andrews?

You're very welcome. The end of January works for me.
If you're not familiar with the process of removing the instrument cluster, I'm happy to send some instructions.

I'll start a private conversation with you such that you can easily get in touch when you're ready.

I did indeed. I spent three years cooped up in the concrete monstrosity of the physics department.

Cheers,

Tom
