You can get quite inventive with the trimming

I've got my speedo bezzel at an upholsterers at the moment. Not quite brave enough (or deep enough pockets) to do the whole dash.

Your worn leather seats can be recolonised at a much cheaper price than replacing leather and will have a similar end result.

That indeed looks nice Steve. Can I ask how much you're paying for your cowl? (You can PM me if you prefer). I want to go to something like my ol' Campaign.

The door cards were made up of a couple of donar cars parts from members on here so didn't have to buy the leather for those.

The leather I'm using for the speedo is from a red leather chair that was being thrown out in work. It was a perfect match and free so seemed a good use for it :)

Symphony II+ (or should that be Symphony III) now fitted

Many thanks to Tom (Timmus) for fitting the Symphony II+ to the A2 the other day. I must say, it totally transforms the listening environment of the car. I can finally see what track is playing, it reads even the cheapest CDRs faultlessly, MP3s play really well, it seems to integrate with the BOSE system fine (it still has 3-way tone control). So on the whole it's great. The only fly in the ointment at the moment is the diversity aerial that came with the unit seems to be the wrong sort, and does not connect to the plug correctly on the back, so it just means that the radio reception is a bit poor sometimes. Need to get onto Kufatec to replace.

Interface with the DIS works fine straight out the box, even impressing Tom with it's display of "MUTE AUDIO" when you've muted it ;)

Now, the cosmetics are something that needs sorting, I've got a plan devised with Tom's help, just need to have the guts to take a hacksaw to the front plate :0 Might look to try and find a cheap broken unit to have a test on first...

Also, now Tom knows how easy this is (for Tom at least ;) ) he will probably be offering this Retro Fit as a service. If anybody is interested in it, I have a spare A4 Concert Unit that is exactly the same functionally, but just doesn't have the 6-disc changer with code that I will put up for sale soon.

Have you checked out "audi tradition" they have some units for sale at fantastic prices.

I just bought one for 40 euros plus carriage and VAT.

2 mods sorted today, both a bit of experimenting.

I bought a cheap TT Symphony II+ from fleabay, and decided to have a practice run at fitting this to BB. Slightly mixed results, but glad that I gave it a test run first, as I would have hated to have done this to my "proper" A4 Symphony II+. I decided the TT unit is too curved originally, hence the missing bits at the top, and I made a complete balls up of the bottom of the unit after using a too thick hacksaw which saw the cut going at an angle... ho hum.

Second mod was a lot more successful. As mentioned above I got hold of a "Begonia Legends" gear knob and gaitor, which I thought would suit the red leather nicely. I was pretty righty . Having managed to separate the old gaiter from the silver ring it too a bit of fettling to get the new one to stay in the slot, but we got there in the end. All I need now is the 6-speed box to go with the indicator...

July Update - Thanks to Rob & Marcus at WOM, and Timmus

Well, a couple of extra mods can now be ticked off the old list. Very happy with results, and the interior of the car has now been "lifted" to even greater heights of excitement.

I've got to say many thanks to Tom (Timmus), and Rob and Marcus at WOM Automotive, without these guys' hard work there would be a much "quieter" A2 sat on our driveway now.

First mod was to fit the Begonia "Legends" A1 steering wheel, and rewire the airbag. Tom spent a good deal of time on this and the results are more than worth it... Combined with the matching gearknob mod I did a few weeks ago, and the red leather it makes the interior much more personal to me. I know it's not going to be to everyone's taste, but I LOVE it!

Secondly, Rob had a "spare" RNS-E unit pre-cut for the A2, so after agreeing a very reasonable figure for this it was fitted at the same time. It was also a good time for Tom to test whether the MFSW buttons would work, and again, very happy to report that everything that should work does work, there are a couple of redundant buttons on the wheel (the MODE button does nothing), but it does everything it needs to do.

Now, all I need to try to find is a couple of 4GB SD cards, unless somebody happens to have an RNS-E 193B unit for sale at a very reasonable cost ;)

Nice job and nice and personal/individual too.

It certainly brightens up the interior. Enjoy the new look and feel.

Can I ask what the cost of the wheel was as a complete fitted unit? Happy for it to be by pm if you would rather not say here.

The wheel and RNS E make for a stunning and unique combo. Great result

Cheers
Rob

Today, got an upgrade to the RNS-E, got a Mk 2 version. Hopefully, will fit it over the coming week. Photos to come.

Also, swapped interiors for a less worn red leather, together with a few other bits of switchgear which were in much nice condition, all courtesy of Project Z (black FSI)

I recognise my carpet and arm of my settee in those pictures !!!

Nice one, it is always very positive when our A2s are seen in magazines like this, certainly can't harm A2 values, plus nice for the owner too

Congrats

Steve B

lol - yes, if you remember I ended up using your photos as I hadn't had chance to get any myself.

Today's updates - Photos to follow, as it got too dark to take any meaningful ones (mainly courtesy of Timmus)

Upgraded to ColourDIS - WOW!
Upgraded to Mk2 RNS-E - Fitted by me, but firmware upgraded by Timmus
Replaced bonnet - got much nicer in correct Ebony Black, so swapped them over (Me!)
Re-Remapped by Timmus - we've got no exact figures for this yet, using one of Paul (Deproman's), but after we'd taken out the "Resistor" tuning chip it seems to be smoking less, but achieving the same sort of power it was before.
A few other cosmetic items were cleaned up as well.
