The Definitive Alloy Wheel Picture thread (Alloys)

Hey, I'm getting good at this, plenty practice using rattle cans..

From this to this.

And now to take these bad boys on.

And halfway through.

Now to choose what colour to spray them.
What ya reckon peeps.

They will be going on these.
What color is your car? IMO the center should/could initiate the visual voyage from the center cup via the silver rim over the black tire to the car body itself...
Choose a color that gives "visual answers" instead of something that creates "visual questions" (why did he choose that color?)
Pls post a pic of the finished result on your A2!

Silver rings and bezel/ring go well with a dark/black center - "connecting" with the black tire out to the car body.
Here is a pic of pepperpots and a silver S-line with black trim (sorry not properly cleaned).

Good suggestion mate, but then again, these wheels could either go on a silver A2 or a pine green A2.
And if I should ever sell them on no doubt the new owner would not like a colour that didn't suit thiers.
But I do see where you are coming from.

Went a little too enthusiastic and added some flakes to the gold paint ?, then I was wondering how much "Subaru WRX" it would be.
So put on a valve and tyre and installed it.

I'm not convinced, and it looks smaller then 16" compared with the 16" at the front.

I think it looks fantastic. Imagine those with Crystal Blue ???

I think that's down to the larger centre caps and the fact that the gold colour doesn't blend with the grey of the centre cap very well.

Both lovely wheels though, that really suit the A2 but must admit personally i think silver looks much nicer.

Excellent work though ?

Anyone ever used these on an A2 as i have never seen them before but thought they could be good as an extra comfort or winter option?

5x100 15" x 6.5j et 34 so a perfect fit and a bit of a more modern pepper pot look?

half the point of pepperpots is they are stupidly light, which adds to the comfort.

Most standard Audi wheels in that size will be heading towards 10kg, where the pepperpots are 5.5 or so.

Yes that's true and i have a set of pepper pots with winter tyres on already.

I think these are just over 9 kg so not exactly light but with having the extra bit of width (6.5j), a lower et of 34 so will protrude a little more and also being 15" would allow a good sized tyre to fill the arches, possibly 195/60 or 205/55, so should look good and provide a solid, stable and comfortable ride.

Could be a really good all rounder?

I do think they must be very rare but would really like to see a photo of them on an A2 though before i buy them ?

I agree that they look smaller, that is likely due to the way our eyes see "slots" versus "holes" (imgine two people the same height, but one is skinny and the other is not, the skinny person "looks" taller...).
I am a fan of the silver finish.... and either of the 16" A8 rims, they both are elegant on the A2 in their own way. Not sure if there is a weight difference between the rims...
@Jellybean 's comment about red centers might be pretty sharp looking...
The Audi4Rings should match the rim if possible (or not clash). I feel a "clash" between gold rims and silver Audi4rings. Perhaps black centers and gold Audi4Rings?, if the red centers with gold Audi4rings don't create harmony...

What is the best way to clean up and then recolour the centre caps? I've got a set that look quite shabby really.
How to revive then but keep the Audi rings looking shiny?

I made a wooden jig that I held in a vise to support the front of the centercap while I individually pushed the 4 small retaining pins from the back of the "rings" with the flat nose of some pliers. It took some effort, but they popped out. They popped back in after painting without any issues. I will add a picture of the jig later tonight.
I was unable to remove the chrome ring due to fear of breaking the cap, (other forum members have managed) so I just masked them carefully.
I used a hammer-finish gloss black paint that was handy, if my wheels were highly polished and immaculate, I would have considered a smooth-finish gloss black (Google - Hammerite 5084781 Metal Paint: Hammered Black 400ml (Aerosol).

This is a re-post from page 6 of this thread. There are also other threads that talk only about the centercap as I recall.
The objective is to carefully pop the Audi-rings from the plastic centercap, then tape/mask the outer chrome rings (one guy managed to get the rings off too), then spray paint the centercap, remove the masking tape, and pop the Audi-rings back in to their place.
BTW, I soaked the centercaps in soapy water for a couple of days before I did anything...
