The Engine Management Light issue...

Hi All - great forum, really helpful.

I stumbled across you guys while searching for the answer to yet another engine management light issue. Now I've just spent over an hour reading all the various posts, but none seem to cover off our particular issue. So here goes - hoping you can help!

It's an A2 1.6 fsi, 03 plate. Low mileage (40,000), used mainly for local trips. The EML came on a while back, Audi cleaned the spark plugs and reset it. Then it came back on again not long after. They suggested taking the car for a long motorway blast. We did, light went off. Then it came back on again. Stayed on.

This time the diagnostics prodly declared "Fault Intake Manifold - Implausable Signal". A fantastically unhelpful answer if ever I heard one!

Leeds Audi tell us: a) replacing the parts will cost £663.84, and b) they wouldn't bother spending the money, because c) "they all do it".

Normally, we would leave it. But we'd like to sell the car and feel that an EML shining off the dashboard might put off a potential buyer somewhat. And what if there's another more serious engine management problem? How would we know?

The nearest post about this I found is this one:

But as I said, it's not exactly the same code or issue.

All advice gratefully received! ;)

they do come on and stay on and then go off again.

I had mine come on when I had the car apart in the summer. In Dresden it returned, stayed for two days. I then had it twice here in the last few months - and now it's stayed off.

I haven't touched the car except to drive it.

I was confident enough in this yesterday that it appears someone owes me a pint. :D

Moral? Worry about it by all means, but only when it stays on for a long period of time (I'm talking a week or so) and then get someone who knows what they're talking about to check it over.
The FSIs tend to have issues with injectors, NOx sensors and coil packs. This seems to be none of the above, so get yourself over to Skipton when you have a spare half day and get a real opinion. (No, he doesn't pay me to say things like this!)

Hi Ian, welcome to the A2oc.
If you have the actual fault code we may be able to offer a bit more help.
If you would like a full diagnostic scan and a second opinion then as Bret suggested, pay a visit to Skipton01 - He lives near Manchester by the way and not Skipton the town.

Cheers Spike

Thanks for the quick replies.

Light has been on constantly for several months now before and after service and reset by Audi.

They didn't give us the actual code, only the "Implausable signal" wording.

Whereabouts near MCR are you, Mr Skipton?

Regards

Ian
