The Legend that is timmus

So as some of you are aware I made a 648 mile round trip today to take advantage of the services our fellow member Tom @timmus provides, oh boy was it worth it (i realise the start of this post could be misconstrued).
I had arranged for Tom to fit a new OEM cruise control stork ect and an after market stereo. Upon arrival we were made to feel very much at home, then Tom got to work. I was shocked at how easy he was able to dismantle my interior whilst holding a full conversation, not hap hazard or such as like but with great care and attention to detail, this is a man that clearly gives a damn about your vehicle and how he handles it. Half way through the CC install Tom had a look at the stereo, to cut a long story short it doesn't have the rear speaker ports instead there is sub woofer ports so not what I wanted. Tom advised me of a better course of action using the original stereo with a dongal bluetooth wotsit to give the car what it needs whilst keeping it OEM, also it will then work with the full DIS he is installing at a later date, perfect!! So instead I asked if he would look at my drivers side electric window controls as it wasn't working properly, well after a few tries of the obvious things (obvious to Tom not myself) he pulled the door apart, he managed to work out the Drivers door Control unit was knackered, so a working one in and hay presto problem solved. It is at this point I can honestly say my opinion of Toms work ethic was set in my mind, he literally spotted so many mistakes and missing parts from other peoples DIY specials or garage bodges it was almost comical if i weren't so shocked by it. He ended up replacing 6 different screws that were missing from the door card and assembly also from under the dash, 2 clips that were missing from the trim, rewiring the door cards correctly in the correct positions and securing's, replaced the door check strap with the improved brass ones, correctly fitted door rubbers that were put in back to front or upside down, correctly fitted the alarm led that's on the drivers door as this was 180 degrees the wrong way round and I'm sure I've forgotten some of it. You'd think that was already above and beyond but no there is more. I mentioned the air con wasn't working, well he was off again on a mission to find the issue, this lead to him finding the compressor is shot which obviously had him under the bonnet, this made him realise rubber trim that was missing, a piece of plastic that secures the rubber trim was also missing, one of the water drain things was broken and the other completely missing, cables that were loose and needed securing, the drivers side plastic seat that the bonnet slides into was missing..........he replaced the lot and made sure it was all fitted and secured properly. After all the extras he sorted Tom finished the CC and returned the interior to better than id arrived with.

Now I can praise him for his workmanship, his professional standards and obvious people skills which is all great, but what really stood him apart from the rest is his clear devotion to you and your A2, he will not let a car go without it being the best it can be and without you YOU being 100% happy, his attention to detail and clear knowledge of these great cars is second to none. I am so grateful to Tom, he has completely exceeded my expectations and quite literally blown me away.
If your thinking of modifying your pride and joy then you won't find anyone better in my opinion than Tom.

Kindest Regards, Mark&Angie

It’s almost like your car has been “SOS’d” after being in his presence

Your not wrong, the man just can't seem to miss anything out of place, it's almost like he built the A2 himself?

Something else I realised whilst we talked, it's not just a business or way of making a living, he has a clear want or even need to keep as many A2's on the road as possible hence the determination to solve any problems he sees before your able to leave, just an outstanding work ethic.

Edit:- I am only just realising now how vital a fix he did for me by repairing and replacing the water drain system in my engine bay, it was allowing water to drip onto the gear lever mechanism which could of caused me a heavy bill, now it's as good as new.
