The quest for the highest mileage A2 and the 200K Club

Well it looks today like I can finally join the 200k club not via my TDi 90 which is at 180k but because I have bought a 325k TDi 75. Which I believe is running on the factory clutch, it hasn’t been changed by the owner of 15 years anyway. And it’s driving fine. Simply amazing.

And an automatic entry into 3rd place (albeit only 1k miles behind 2nd).

Do another 24k miles in it and you'll be our record holder in original engine.

That is no surprise, the clutch I took out of mine at 272K miles had around another 100K mile left on the spinner plate New LUK spinner plate had 1.6mm of material to the rivets, at 272K miles there was still 0.6mm left
The release bearing cried enough killing the clutch

Same as mine the release bearing failed at 280,000 clutch otherwise was fine

Wow!!! I’m at 303k and well and truly outdone?!

Did you do the oil pump chain yourself? I’m wondering when mine will need it and how much hassle it is - so far all work is done by me...
Oh, got 180k before I had to rebuild the alternator...

Yes
If you can do timing belt change not much more to it, if preventative maintenance and the crank gear is ok
A few special tools needed buy , borrow or make
Philward did a step by step guide
Considerably less hassle than replacing the engine we just caught ours in time , failure was imminent
