Old plugs. Looked to be not too old, but.. binned them.
Oh, and before removing the plugs it is a good idea to blow away any dirt around them to avoid having it fall into the cylinder when removing the plugs.
I also used my garage vacuum cleaner (with an appropriate small plastic hose) afterwards to clean the plug mating surface in the cylinder head.

Went off on a test drive, and.... sucess?
Nope  ?.
Still new misfires which also continued to activate the EML light.

Check the coil. That was ultimately the component that resolved all my AUA problems (after replacing the plugs and leads) - when unbolted from the engine the insulation on the back and underside of the coil was cracked and arcing to the head. Got a Bosch one off Ebay and the engine has never run better.

Agree. This is how my looked on the underside:

An unintended aperture between the potting material and the casing ?

mine was worse than that - potting brittle and separated most of the way round the edge, casing cracks in a couple of places and a burnt hole in cylinder 1's plug outlet - I should have taken a photo, but it went straight in the bin as soon as I had the replacement. This is now the first place I would check if I had another AUA with uneven idle, misfires etc.

Well, there hasnt been any more misfires so that repair was successful ?.

Just to keep me busy I guess a new thing came up the other day, and today I finally got round to connect VCDS to find this:

My first reaction was to disconnect and re-connect the four-pin yellow connector under the driver seat, assuming that N95 was about the side airbag in the seat. Wrong!
I have now done some research and realise that N95 actually is the airbag in the steering wheel.
Not sure if I should suspect connectors or the actual device with sliprings under the steering wheel.

Good to hear @Olerype .
Just back from a test drive after unplugging /replugging the airbag connectors before and after the slipring device under the steering wheel. Involved removing steering wheel and the covers beneath.
Before doing that I had the fault code in the picture above active all the time.
Now after every thing is fine.
So the odds seem good that it was the right fix. SHE is booked for car inspection coming Tuesday

Car inspection passed without problem back in March. SHE has behavied well since.
Last weekend SHE was treated with a new thermostat. I had no clue beforehand which of the two possible version was mounted, so to be sure I bought both a new thermostat and a matching cover.
Then it doesnt matter which version was mounted before.
Turned out to be the same type this time though.
Forgot pictures from the work itself, but here is the old parts and the package of the new parts.
Operation was successful, from typical 65-70C the gauge is now parked at 90C as it should.
Hope the fuel consumption is even better after this.

New Update. My partner who is the custodian and user of SHE, just phoned and reported that it just has broken down, 120km from home. No propulsion. ?. That sounds vaguely familiar.

Now SHE has been towed back home in the glorious wheather, unable to propel her self.
The thermometer reported 34 C part of the journey but as we got closer to the evening it dropped to 26C and even a short rain shower appeared.

I just shot this video to illustrate the problem.

There is something not right here.....?

I tried some more ways to include the clip and I just found out that if I use the "Insert link" button and in ADDITION to the URL also fill in somehing in the Text field; then it works.

My conclusion; a youtube clip can be linked to here, IF one uses the "Insert link" function AND also enters something in the Text field.

the clip
