The S H E car

Yesterday I exchanged the alternator of SHE. As the details might be of more general interest I made a separate thread for it.

Even though SHE requires some repairs now and then we like her and today we spoiled SHE and she with brand new Valeo headlights.
The old ones were the original splittable but in at most average condition. So now with the darker periods soon here we thought good light is never bad.

The boxes with goodies in.

The difference is there :)

It sure does look like a different car with new headlights. I ended up doing the same a couple months ago when the old splittable headlights started to crumble while cleaning due to gathering moist for years.

Looks fantastic 👍 Deeply envious, the RHD ones went NLA a year or two ago.
Yes, I have understood you have issues with some unique RHD parts. Shame.
But in theory shouldnt it be possible to bake and split a new LHD unit and transplant the RHD reflector into the opened LHD unit, creating a RHD unit with new housing and glass? Wont help of course if the reflector is worn.

Indeed, the theory is sound, but ... would you put a brand new shiny headlight in the oven? I don't think I could find enough brave pills for that

Its amazing how much better the car looks when headlights are new. And the light output is not too bad neither (even you swedish like to install alot of extra lumen)

At some point that’s exactly what I’m going to do with the brand new LHD headlights from my fathers 1.2 which had to be swapped for RHD in 2005 when he bought it.

Just thinking aloud. Can we not use our Forum credentials and ask Valeo if they would do us a batch of RHD units. I’m sure they will have the templates in factory??

The original bottom mounting screws on these early cars are approx 10mm shorter than what is needed to fasten a later headlight, therefore I had to dig around in the shed and find something else. Hence the awful electroplated screws.

The good news is that the longer screws are still obtainable at the audi dealer.
Old, temporary electroplated an finally the new screws with their part number visible on the bag.
