8 months after bying my first A2, somehow a second one showed up by our house.
May I present SHE, as she presented herself at the sellers premises near Stockholm:

SHE was not very expensive to buy, but on the otherhand SHE was not interested in mobility at all.
Advertised to have a faulty gearbox, SHE correctly didnt move by her own.
But the engine started, the battery was well charged, all lights was working so the deal was made and the tow line was attached.

Just 141 km to drive/tow to get home, and we started at 1900.
Yepp, it was dark. Yepp, it was raining. Yepp, first 15 km was full of runabouts (which means reduce speed, stop, stretch the line, smoothly but quickly enter the runabout in the offered traffic gaps, etc...), you all know the drill.
My daughter was doing a fantastic work back in SHE, while I was in the towing car, a 1986 Audi 100 Avant with its powerful carburettor 1.8 engine (ehh).

SHE is a bit dirty, both inside and out, but fairly undamaged overal.

Has anyone ever seen a little tip like this on the outer mirror before? I havent, wonder what good it does.

I belive SHE is produced in Feb 2001, and comes with hard touch rather than soft touch.

Diagnosed the gearbox yet? Maybe you are lucky and only the linkage is broken or similar?
Yes, have had progress on that.
My initial ideas included:
-broken rivet on the crown wheel (not uncommon on some contemporary VAG gearboxes)
-broken clutch friction plate (eg rivets)
-broken drive drive joint/splines

I was lucky; when I checked under the car, with the wheel stationary on the ground, a gear engaged and clutch released I could see that the left driveshaft was rotating, but not the left wheel drive joint nor wheel! :)

So either the joint itself with its balls have broken, or lost the grip of the drive shaft via the splines.

A new SKF driveshaft is on its way home right now, for less than 80GBP.

What did you pay for the car if I may ask? You should probably have a very cheap car in your hands?
Very cheap A2s are almost nonexisting in Sweden, but considering that, I though this one was worth its 4000SEK (corresponds to like 330GBP).
How about A2 values in Norway?

In Norway you get 3000NOK (240GBP) back when you crush a car, so typically you would need to pay 4000-10000NOK depending if the car has something extra with respect to factory-options.

You can get quite nice cars for 10-15000NOK, cars that has eg failed MOT due to simple faults but related with high cost from a workshop. In Norway a workshop charges 70GBP each manhour..

Was visiting a car breaker this weekend and found two rear lights in good condition.
Perfect as SHEs right side rear light had a crack, well almost hole, in it.
Easy job to change.

SHE has the original old style of wiper arm, and in very bad condition:

In need to attend to this.
I have found a new genuine arm (LHD) of the new design at a German dealer for 81Euro.
In Sweden the Audi dealer wants 50% more. Hmm I dont mind supporting local businesses but there are limits.

I am assuming the new type of arm will fit right on, am I right?

Could you please update how the fitment of the driveshaft is?
A member on the Dutch A2 site ordered the same partnumber and stated it didn't fit because it was too short.

Oh? Thats worrying, I will report back when I know more. Perhaps in the weekend if weather is kind.
