The tour of Wales 2018

26th & 27th May 2018

I know it has only been a week since the 'Jolly around the mountains' but with what I have in mind it will take a HUGE amount of planning.

Please think of the 2017 event as being a trial run for the real thing :)

My hope would be to make 2018 a tour of Wales. Starting in the South as before but heading into mid Wales and then onto the Welsh coast before following the coastline down to the West and back to South Wales for the good road links to get everyone home. This will cover a distance of around 200 miles in total but will take in some breathtaking scenery that will make this years views feel like a trip to your local park.

Now that level of driving won't be for the faint hearted and will require at least one overnight stay along the way.

There won't be a limit on the numbers next year because I'm hoping to tailor the event to the amount of people.

It will probably happen in late spring of 2018 around May.

What I'm looking for at the moment is just a show of hands from those who would be seriously interested in something of this scale.

UPDATE

The date is now confirmed as Saturday 26th May 2018 and Sunday 27th May 2018.

The loose plan looks like this

Day 1
- Meet at Nant Ddu lodge near Brecon
- Drive 45 minutes then a break
- Drive to Lampeter
- Drive some more and take a 2 hour lunch break
- Drive another 45 minutes and another break
- Another 45 minutes and then arrive at
- Overnight stay Aberystwyth seafront

Day 2
- Drive down west coast via Aberaeron/Newquay/St Davids and Newgale.
- Stop offs will be made along the way at each coastal town.
- Spot of lunch
- Welcome to head back south for better link roads or stay another night (which is what i'll be doing)

Day 3
- Those that are left, go our seperate ways.

***I would advise that if you wish to take part in this event that you reserve a room close to the seafront Aberystwyth as soon as you can for the night of 26th May. Rooms are already filling up bevause it's a popular resort****

There are 2 things that everyone taking part must have:

- access to a satnav unit, and
- a phone that can access whatsapp

More details ro follow in time.

Thank you for a great response so far.

Sounds fantastic Steve, if Wales 2018 is Wales 2017 on steroids, it really will be another amazing event.

A positive show of hands from me (us), so please add my name to the list. Happy to be on the radio again if this is how you plan to run things.

Already looking forward to it...

Cheers,

Darren

Good stuff mate. It will all depend on the numbers. If its bigger than last year there may need to be two groups but time will tell.

A newbie, but my A2 might be a little more in keeping with everyone else's by then.
I used to be a bus driver in North / Mid Wales...
Count me in!

Cheers

The only requirement for A2's on this one is that they rin and have 4 wheels :)

The singing is compulsory. There may well be one other car behind yours and that's Sams 2008 with the kids. She planned this route and suggested the overnight stay. I think she was quite smitten with you all :-D

Is definitely be interested (and now have a fully functional Mabel).
It would depend when in May though, as I have commuted to hold a 50th birthday party in Norwich on the 4th

Well she is an FSI so we'll keep our fingers crossed :) It will either be early or late may bank holiday.

if anyone would like to start thinking of accomodation, the night stay will be on the 5th or 26th of May and will be in a place called Aberystwyth.

Thanks Steve. I'd definitely be out if it's the early bank holiday as I wouldn't be safe to drive to Wales after the party on the 4th. But I do understand that it may be better for most as the end of May is half term and lots of people will be going away.
I will still raise a drink to you from Norfolk if I can't come :)

Still no love for Snowdonia? Made a couple of enquiries a few years back regards a social in Snowdonia but to no avail... you want driving roads and scenery, head North!
Great job organising all this though, takes a lot effort I should imagine.
