The use of a TROLLEY JACK

Apart from the use of the jack supplied with the car in the approved jacking points, can anybody help me with regard to the use of a trolley jack (as used by garages) because of possible damage to the aluminium underbody, ie, are there special trolley jacking points and does the trolley jack need a form of padding between the lifting arm and car?

Thanks
Fordwick.

I sincerely hope that answer to both your questions is 'no' given what I had to have done last week (http://www.a2forum.net/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2744)! The fitter certainly didn't use an padding nor did he probably know where the 'official' jacking point was!

Fordwick,

I frequently us a trolley jack on my A2 and yes there are specific lifting points, if you look under the car at the points where the supplied jack should be used, you will see machined Al castings. Use these, I pad my jack with a timber block covered in an old bit of rubber floor mat. The castings appear to have locators in them, I assume these are for the 4 point lifting systems Audi dealers use for servicing etc.
