Okay guys, an update on the sound deadening.

Have now had the car stripped from the front back, though I haven’t done it all myself. Have taken some snaps.

The main noise on this car comes from the engine bay and the transmission tunnel.

There really is no opportunity to do anything about the engine bay from inside of the car, it just ain’t going to happen, way too many wires and pipes.

Once the front carpet is lifted then there is some stuff already on the foot-well floor pan, but more is nice. Once you lift the cover off the space boxed area at the front then this really DOES need some sheets, 2 sheets per side will do the trick. Also a sheet on the alloy cover is a good bet too.

There is good padding to the carpet and some to the transmission tunnel cover’s but some extra sheets here will be appreciate.

There are many areas where my hands are too big to go and I have already shed some blood.

The front doors are amazing,, amazingly WELL built. I have previously owned a sweet BMW and a sexy MB and I stripped them down too but they are not a patch on the A2 for build quality. These doors are solid, anyway you have an inner alloy plated lining which is removable and you can line the outer door skin and the inner door skin. It adds some serious “thunk” to the door when it closes.

Also the door latches are servo assisted in their opening, I didn’t know that,, the amount of “gizzmo’s” built into the door is clever.

The front speakers are 100% 6” [155mm]jobbies and they are completely sealed so as to give an increase in low bass performance.

The doors do not only have hinges where you would expect them but also has another device to aid both the opening and closing of the door,, not too sure what you would call it but it looks very solid and is spring loaded,, like the springs on top of some self closing doors.

I have just come back from the car audio shop and seen what they have done to my front door panels.. ummm very sexy,, they have mould a frame to fit under the arm rest,, you lose the door pocket which is no big deal for me as I can’t reach into the bottom of it to find things,, they have snuggly grafted two 175mm bass speakers into each door plus a 100mm midrange unit plus replaced the original tweeter with a decent one.. They intend to finish it off in the same colour as the seats and fit a dark but matching grille cover,, should look factory fitted at the end of the day,, can’t wait till they have finished.

Sounds interesting. Have you gotten the car back yet? How did the sound proofing work? Have you posted your pix?
