At the social the weight of the Open Sky system was mentioned and an another post here today Kaine mentioned the Open Sky weighing as much another human onboard! Hmmm So here are the official weights of our options then (al in Kg):

Open Sky: 35.0
Climatronic: 27.7
Sports pack (alloys and suspension): 20.6
Space saver spare: 14,0
6J 16' Alloys: 11.8 (and I thought they are supposed to be lighter!)
Sat nav colour: 9.1
BOSE Sound: 6.2
6J x 15' alloys: 5.2
Luggage floor: 5.0 (!!!)
Front sport seats in leather/alcantara: 4.7
Sat nav B&W: 4.6
Sideguard airbags: 3.6
Rear bench seat: 3.2 (interesting as this is 1,2 TDI standard to save weight! - or do they have yet another seat for that Lucas?)
Chorus speaker upgrade: 3.2
Luggage cover: 3.1
6 CD changer: 3.0
Headlight washers: 2.8
Sports seats in Jacquard satin: 2.7
Floor mats with protective strips: 2.5
Leather upholstery: 2.0
Satellite cloth: 1.5
Electric rear windows: 1.5
Electric lumbar: 1.3
Symphony front loading 6CD: 1.0
Heated front seats: 0.8
Front fog lights: 0.8
DIS: 0.7 (surprisingly heavy)
Accoustic parking system: 0.5
Winter pack (full incl heater jets): 0.3
Three spoke steering wheel: 0.2
Illuminated sunvisors: 0.2
Cruise control: 0.1 (proof it is only a stalk)

Now the intersting ones (they weigh NOTHING but you pay for them!)
Concert RDS radio single CD
Automatic dipping rear view mirror
Elasticated belt system
ISOFIX
Metallic paint
Four spoke steering wheel
Multi function steering wheel
(...and yes I know it is because their weights are negligible and thus less than 100g)

and the most expensive option that weighs nothing (and is thus just software):
TV function for the Sat Nav.

So add a few of those up and you do have another person with you ALL the time (eg open Sky & climatronic & BOSE & Space saver & Luggage floor & Symphony & illuminated sunvisors & lugggae cover as I have, adds 92.2Kg to my car!!! That is one big bloke there ALL the time!

If a 6 cd changer weighs 3 KG then I will be VERY suprised.

Ah yes, but the 6 cd changer does include 3 free heavy metal cd's[33]

Hmm... I have the TV tuner in my A2 and it definitively weighs around 3 kg (and has a quite loud fan), so something might be wrong here... but I agree the €800 can better be spent elsewhere... the thing is quite useless.
Other than that, it means that my car is 130,4 kg´s over the standar weight...

Bye, Frido.

now parents' car: A2 1.2 TDI 2002 silver, CC, DIS

...add to that the extra 95kg of the diesel engine and your average A2 weighs way over a TON! Not much lighter than a Polo then...

I was torn between the new Polo 1.4TDI SE and the A2 1.4TDI SE, in short the A2 was far better to drive for the same spec car. and besides the weight isn't an issue, if you wanted a light car than you would buy a smaller one and not a 4/5 door that can cope with 4 adults and their luggage.

I think there is something fundamentally wrong with the stated weights!
3.1 kilos for the boot floor?
Don't forget to add these to the stanadrd weight published for your model, not the 'standard' car.
