A Smart and Passion Cabriolet!

(sorry to post mods if this is a faux pas but I thought given the forum target audience you'd be interested in how this car stacks up).

£10k (quite a lot of money) but full electric roof, windows, mirrors etc, CD player, leather heated seats, mettalic, alloys, auto and tiptronic gearbox, ABS/EBD etc and a dinky 598cc twin spark turbo charged engine.

Delivered this Friday to replace the A Class (whose other three seats never got used at all).

I'll post my thoughts in this thread on quality etc and what such a small car is like in the real world.

It sounds very nice! However, need I point out that for £10k, you could have picked up a nearly new, well specc'd A2 ?!

On a business trip to Brussels a few months ago, the hirecar company gave me a very basic smart car. I was with another colleague but I was the allocated driver and so had to make the 30 minute motorway drive in it (with luggage an inch from my head!) to the office.

I am sure that the Smart is a very capable town car, but your should think very carefully before using it at motorway speeds when there is any kind of crosswind!

Yeah, saw that business about p-ex values, shocking. Besides although I still love the A2 as a concept I couldn't ever buy another now.

I don't think it'll see much motorway miles but then all the Smart's I've ever seen pass me at about 95 despite being limited to 85!

All I can say Chris, is that this is some change. I do acknowledge that you are not a one car family, and that in itself makes a big difference in choice. I’m sure the “Smart” will be fine for the tested Tesco run, and with much interest I await your later comments in comparing it with the Merc.

I note you mention many extras, but why did you not opt for the grass box ?

Yep, a sea change I think it's known as.

Fortunately, as you say, we're a two car family (I have a 3 series touring) and, because I cycle to work, that's always on the drive anyway.

I'm looking forward to the Tesco run and parking the Smart next to the A2's and Mini's!

One interesting fact was that the Smart came second in the Which reliability survey and from what I've read on some of the forums that looks to be true.

As you can see however, buying a cabrio has had some effect on climate change this week and for that I apologise to you all!

Maybe Tesco will start selling the changeable panels for Smarts!.

You could have striped blue and white 'value' brand!

And it's here!!!

1 week into ownership and this really is a special car indeed. I think we're getting more looks than Ferrari drivers (although 50% probably aren't admiring!).

This really is a special car. Electric retracting roof on the fly really useful for uncovering in those small rain breaks, awesome heated seats and taking up no room on the drive.

The auto is superb when you get used to it and the car really does motor along quickly.

Quality is absolutely super and not a hint of a rattle or shake.

Look out for me at Tesco's guys! (Finest range only of course)

Chris,

Should we see you at Tesco’s you will likely stand out a mile as the one with small eggs, small cans of coke, 4 Brussel sprouts, and a rasher of bacon. Fortunately you are not a one car family, so with a bit of luck you will not have to resort to a 3lb Christmas turkey.

I might add a close friend of mine with 3 Aston’s and a Range Rover is seriously considering getting a “Smart” because parking spaces at the local pub are often at a premium.

A cahp I know was importing left hand drive Smarts. I think they were ex rental cars with about 30k miles, he was selling them for around £4k - sounds like a reasonable deal for a second cheap to run car.

That made me laugh!!!:)

In all seriousness mind the wife just came home with 11 bags of shopping (Tesco of course).

Even less if they are Value brand tea bags with one leaf per bag (and rumours are the bags are made out of old tights...)
