Yes, the strips you refer to should be body coloured - what you describe will be a reaction due to the lovely climate you are lucky to enjoy
Those strips are plastic and the lacquer/paint is known to craze/discolour. It happened to my UK based car and other members have also reported this. I replaced the whole strip and had it painted, so be careful how the dealer goes about fixing this. Given that there is quite a bit of work being done for the sale; I'm sure they will be keen to keep costs as low as possible.
The strips pop out; they just have a rubber gasket that clicks into grooves on the bodywork - so I hope they remove them completely to refinish them. I'm not sure how much they are - but the better option might be to buy some new ones and get the dealer to pay for the painting - then youre back to original state.
