This thing - subframe rear mount nut holder.

Hi all,

I'm in the middle of changing the subframe on my car.
Having a problem with a rear mounting bolt. The plastic holder (shown) has moved and I presume it was holding a square nut (?). It's came out of the holder, moved further into the chassis rail and I can't seem to locate it.
Is it possible to have gone far, and what is it I'm feeling for?
Does anyone have one? I'll put a "wanted" add in also.

TIA, Al.

I presume you are referring to the rear subframe/axle. I'm about to do mine. I presumed the bolts went into captive nuts that were spot welded but this suggests otherwise. Something to be aware of. I guess the plastic holder has perished to some extent.

I tried to find the part on LLParts but the diagrams are not showing (they use catalogparts.org which is down)

Front arch on chassis leg?

I had a look on 7zap but couldn't find the right diagram, between us..we will track it down.

Yes the 2 rear bolts for the subframe.

I presumed the same, a captive nut/threaded aluminium. The way it had been described with steel/aluminium contact I was led to believe that corrosion would have occured. Not so.
I took a line extension tube in a 3/4" breaker bar, but they all came loose ok.
The problem was I knocked the plastic holder and that loosened the square galvanised steel nut. The holder is fine.

I tried a magnet approach, but being galvanised I don't think it's overly attractive.
I'm led to believe that it can't go too far in, so will try a piece of hooked wire tomorrow.
There were 2 for sale by a breaker on eBay, I've bought one just in case.

Bet it is wedged into a corner and the first bump you drive over ( and all others ) will make it rattle.....

What you need is a small borescope with fingers or a magnet on the end to see, located and remove the "nut".
