Timing belt kit? What make was OEM?

Just about to buy a timing belt kit (inc water pump) probably from AUTODOC.

Is Bosch the go to OEM standard or should I be looking at something else?

I have always used Gates kits. Bosch have never let me down on other parts so why not. Just make sure you get everything that you need and the kit is an exact match to your engine ( various tensioners fitted ). I would also replace the aux belt if not in the kit and also check or replace the alternator overrun pulley at the same time and its tensioner / idler.

I normally go dayco or which ever kit i can get for under £30 on ebay then search out a genuine pump for around £22. But if new get the skf belt and pump kit for my tdi (that one was for a galaxy buti think is same as A2)

I bought a Gates kit for my A2, all felt good quality and I have Gates in my modified Elise and advice on specialists.

My audi bought S2 belt is stamped Gates. Bearings INA or SKF. SKF make good pumps.
Be careful with Autodoc. I have had horrendous after sales experience with them. They often sent me incorrect parts and then it was almost impossible to send them back. I also believe they sent me a counterfeit wheel bearing and I reported them to SKF.
Also be careful about all the fake stuff on ebay. SKF have launched their own online shop in the UK to try and counter all the fake stuff for sale. Good prices as well. Search counterfeit skf wheel bearings on google. You will be shocked!

I had issues wiht AutoDoc. Was really happy with the detail on the site but then it took WEEKS to arrive and I cancelled but they just ignored it, they do have some good parts though. Got my cambelt kit from eBay form a big well reviewed seller, no issues.

Interesting you’ve had issues with AUTODOC. I recently (over last 2 years) completely restored a 1999 B5 S4 avant and bought loads of stuff from AD with no issues. I suspect Brexit and an increasing demand will cause more issues.

Will check out the eBay options though.

Thanks again for the replies, all very constructive and helpful.

B5 S4 - very nice.

I have also been restoring a car over the last 2 years. S2 Avant Nothelle N300. I bought lots of parts from Autodoc no issues then things seemed to go wrong over and over. Another S2 Forum member has also had horrendous issues and I for one will never use them again.

S2...now you’re talking! I once owned the UrS4 years ago (which I think has the same 20v turbo engine as the S2?) and got completely addicted to the BOOOST!

Loving the B5, upgraded the turbos to KO4s and had it properly tuned....crazy car now so it only does a few miles each year as the MPG is maybe 1/4 of what we get out of the A2 daily!

Nice. Yes, Urs4 and the later Urs6 have basically the same engine. You can't beat that 5 pot turbine like acceleration on boost

After reading this post today, And found the article from Tractor Dave about SKF products I clicked on the link and sent them photos of a front wheel bearing hub. Which I think only cost £35 for 2 but lost the receipt.
Anyway SKF reported back that they were genuine.

So that's to Tractor Dave.
I might have gone out and bought 2 more.

Cheers
David
