Timmus in the South East - Summer 2021

Hello good people of A2OC,

The easing of the Covid-19 lockdown restrictions means that, once again, I am able to travel to provide A2 services. I'd like to thank everyone who has brought their A2 to me over the last months and supported me during these challenging and uncertain times. It is much appreciated.

I'm acutely aware that I still owe a number of club members replies to their messages. Unfortunately, being my own secretary, I can struggle to reply to private messages promptly when work is busy. Rest assured, no message goes unanswered and I will get back to you. Thanks for your patience.

From Friday 11th June, I intend to base myself in Leighton Buzzard, just to the north of London. Massive thanks are owed to @Proghound for allowing me to work and sleep at his house. The length of my stay in Leighton Buzzard is determined almost solely by the demand for my time, though I must be back in Lancaster by Friday 9th July for a physiotherapy appointment. The weekend of 26/27 June is also reserved for the memorial of a friend who passed away during the 1st Covid lockdown.
It is also my hope/intention to visit @Ami’s workshop in Horsham. This will make my services available to some club members who aren't able to get to Leighton Buzzard. Leighton Buzzard is the default location for all unless otherwise arranged.

I shall do my utmost to fulfil as many requests as possible. However, please be aware that there are some limitations to the range of services that I can provide when away from home. For example, some upgrades require parts that I won't have the space to transport. Some parts may be out of stock or unavailable due to Brexit or the continued impact of the pandemic. I also cannot complete all upgrades at weekends, so I'd be grateful if Saturdays and Sundays were left available to those with no alternative. The final limitation is that there's only one of me, for which many are surely much relieved!

At the bottom of this message, I have tagged many club members who have made contact with me in recent months who may appreciate my greater proximity. However, this is not an exhaustive or exclusive list; my services are open to all who are able to meet me.

For those who are unfamiliar with my services, an overview can be seen here:

Kind regards,

Tom

Good afternoon Timmus can you advise what days you are in Horsham or have I missed it in your intro? I have no central locking or alarm when turning the key in door or on remote. Think it issue with drivers door. Can this be sorted?
Hope you can advise
Regards

Good afternoon, Johnboy.

For the duration of my time in the South East, I'm based in Leighton Buzzard. I will be travelling to Horsham for just a single day (Saturday 19th June), but that day is already packed.
I am, of course, happy to investigate (and hopefully fix!) the issues with your central locking, though the car would need to be brought to me in Leighton Buzzard. There are still slots available, especially towards the end of my time here. Please take a look at the schedule at the bottom of the very first post in this thread.

Kind regards,

Tom

I have just got home after the magic hands of Tom was laid upon my A2 and you would not know he had been there unless like me you witness it yourself. He pulled the speedo, radio, centre console and down into the depths of the ECU/ electrical compartment . All I can say the colour DIS is a revelation and brings our cars bang up to date. And comes with so much additional information drawn from a 17 year old car and displayed in hi quality screen. If you thinking about having one fitted all I can offer is do it, you will not regret it. Thanks you Tom for your skills time and expertise and great company.

Seriously thinking of having this done on mine too. Many thanks to @timmus for fitting cruise control yesterday to my A2, and also nice to meet @Proghound too. Excellent job done ....needless to say the CC is working perfectly. ??

It was great to meet you Andy, glad you're enjoying your new cruise. ColourDIS is incredibly rich in detail and capability, I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who's considering the upgrade.

Thank you to all who have left such kind, positive feedback. :)

The schedule in Post 1 of this thread has been updated to include the latest bookings.

Cheers,

Tom

Just a quick note to add to the chorus of approval. Tom worked his magic on Saturday morning on my 1.6 FSI, adding multi-function steering wheel (MFSW), Colour driver information system (DIS) and a long-planned xCarlink tweak to handle my car's 2x6 CD changers. As others say, I am left in awe of Tom's expertise and precision, soldering tiny wires for consecutive jobs, concurrently, all while chatting about whatever it is we were chatting about!

Here's a shot of the steering wheel boss and the inside of the dash as Tom prepared to fit lovingly pre-prepared Colour DIS system and a MFSW:

Thanks, once again, Tom @timmus for your sterling work, preparation and expertise. It's a pleasure to be able to use your services. I hope I'll be able to work out a free session to sort out the other little issues identified soon.

Thanks also to Ian @Proghound for providing a welcoming base for the South East A2 workshop. Top man!

I feel very lucky to be able to access the passion, wealth of expertise and good old fashioned helpfulness and community spirit of this forum. Long may it continue!

I will write a decent post in my Sicily thread, but I think it's only fair enough to thank Tom for all the work and Ian for the hospitality during my visit yesterday. Even though it was only the first time I saw both, it felt like we have been friends for a while. I spent such a lovely afternoon under the blue tarp, as Tom did his magic on the car and Ian showed me a few tricks on the A2 which I wasn't aware of. So nice to talk the fellow enthusiasts bitten by the same bug :)

And of course, my Project Sicily is now converted and much improved, but more on that in the Sicily thread!

I happily second that!

I also had the colour DIS fitted yesterday and what can I say... It puts most, if not all current new cars' information system to shame :)

Better late than never and in the correct place to do it as well, but just wanted to leave a big THANK YOU to Tom (Timmus) and Ian (Proghound) for taking care of my A2 here. It was also a big pleasure meeting you.

It was a wonderful experience and a joy watching Tom working on the car and fixing everything and all in such a detail, even things that were not part of the initial list of things to do. This is what makes this car so much valuable, not just in the monetary sense of the word (but with Tom´s work as well).

I hope to have the basics of the car sorted to start improving it and getting it better the next time we meet, it was a very nice beginning!

All the best,

Maxim

I felt so guilty as my list kept on getting longer and longer as well...

My write-up is coming soon, but I have a Uni deadline at the moment. I want to do both that and the write-up properly, hence the delay.

I hope I am forgiven :)

Hi Tom,

Just a quick note to say thank you for a very peasant Sunday afternoon in Leighton Buzzard with you and Ian helping me sort out numerous issues on the A2 and helping me uncover some new ones :)

Looking forward to the next session once we have all of the bits needed to schedule another session.

Best wishes

Ems.

Here's saying a big thank you to Tom and Ian for having my partner and I and for all their help in sorting out my inherited A2 and its inherent issues, was particularly impressed with Tom's attention to detail and desire to return botched up jobs back to factory standard. Looking forward to seeing you both again in a few weeks and hoping my one remaining issue will finally be sorted ? ?????
