Timmus in the South East - Summer 2021

I have finally managed to do the write-up for my lovely visit to Leighton Buzzard last week :)

Evening all,

Recently arrived at home from a very pleasant day at @Proghound Towers visiting Tom @timmus to perform his magic on Project 250.

Ian, your hospitality and generosity was impeccable as usual, thank you very much indeed.

Tom, always an honour to have you deploy your tools to enhance and refine the fleet.

The return leg was vastly improved with the addition of Cruise Control along with having the ability to control the rear electric windows from the drivers seat. The auto dimming mirror displaying its compass was nice to see.

I cannot forget to thank Jeremy @sciroccorrado (who arrived in BB for some fettling) for his generosity donating a refurbished door check strap. Not 2 minutes after fitting said check strap I heard his own drivers door deliver the horrible clunking noise. I made a quick get-away before home changed his mind!

Gentlemen thank you very much.

Kind regards,

Tom

Just got the mean machine back from “The Magician “that is Tom .
What can I say about a 20 year old car vastly improved over 2 days . I disappeared, to return with a WOW .....nice work !. Please See the pictures, I was mighty impressed with the new cockpit, even took the long way home today driving back.
See you in Morecombe HQ for the final solution and I hope you enjoyed the curry.
Nice to meet Ian but I had to dash as my old man was waiting for a pint.
all the best guys

Hi Steve,

Tom installed the following :

- A2 Sport steering wheel which was retrimmed by Royal Steering Wheels with red leather and flat bottom + TT airbag.
- A2 Sport gearstick was recoloured from black to red and fitted.
- A2Steve cupholder replaced the broken one (from 2010) finally !
- Double Din Dash
- Mint RSN-E Mark 2 to link up to the BOSE installed from last summer in Leighton Buzzard.
- Wiring for PDC rear bumper
- DIS
- Resprayed Bumper to be fitted in August
- I better refurbish the alloys wheel(s) now and centre caps (as per your guide ) as they don't look so nice.

Hi John, you are indeed booked in Thursday 8th July in the morning. Let me know on PM if you need any further details re directions or similar as it's my place you'll be coming to for @timmus to work his magic.

Hello good people of A2OC,

The easing of the Covid-19 lockdown restrictions means that, once again, I am able to travel to provide A2 services. I'd like to thank everyone who has brought their A2 to me over the last months and supported me during these challenging and uncertain times. It is much appreciated.

I'm acutely aware that I still owe a number of club members replies to their messages. Unfortunately, being my own secretary, I can struggle to reply to private messages promptly when work is busy. Rest assured, no message goes unanswered and I will get back to you. Thanks for your patience.

From Friday 11th June, I intend to base myself in Leighton Buzzard, just to the north of London. Massive thanks are owed to @Proghound for allowing me to work and sleep at his house. The length of my stay in Leighton Buzzard is determined almost solely by the demand for my time, though I must be back in Lancaster by Friday 9th July for a physiotherapy appointment. The weekend of 26/27 June is also reserved for the memorial of a friend who passed away during the 1st Covid lockdown.
It is also my hope/intention to visit @Ami’s workshop in Horsham. This will make my services available to some club members who aren't able to get to Leighton Buzzard. Leighton Buzzard is the default location for all unless otherwise arranged.

I shall do my utmost to fulfil as many requests as possible. However, please be aware that there are some limitations to the range of services that I can provide when away from home. For example, some upgrades require parts that I won't have the space to transport. Some parts may be out of stock or unavailable due to Brexit or the continued impact of the pandemic. I also cannot complete all upgrades at weekends, so I'd be grateful if Saturdays and Sundays were left available to those with no alternative. The final limitation is that there's only one of me, for which many are surely much relieved!

At the bottom of this message, I have tagged many club members who have made contact with me in recent months who may appreciate my greater proximity. However, this is not an exhaustive or exclusive list; my services are open to all who are able to meet me.

For those who are unfamiliar with my services, an overview can be seen here:

Kind regards,

Tom

Hello Tom, Can you fit a double dim and audi head unit on one of your south days please ? I've looked at the list and i think you still have Wednesday available.

Hi there,
I'm sure Tom won't mind me chipping in here. Are you already in possession of the replacement dash? When Tom's working from my place rather than at his own house near Lancaster, for a dash or seat retrofit you'd need to have acquired the items yourself and bring them with you. Sadly even Tom's cargo-adapted A2 runs out of room to transport bulky items when the load also consists of a month's worth of wiring looms, tools and equipment :) If you can get hold of a dash in the next couple of months, it's looking quite possible that Tom will be down South again in the Autumn, it would probably be best to make arrangements based on that future schedule.

Hello Proghound i have a double dim dash and i also have a double dim head unit from a audi a4. please advice. thanks Antony

Hi Antony,
Sorry to report that Tom's schedule for Wednesday has now been finalised from other enquiries that were already in progress, which means there's no more available time left on this occasion. However your requirements will be added to Tom's list of candidates for the next time he's down here: a certain 'critical mass' of demand for his work is needed to make these tours viable so it's good to know there's already potentially a whole day accounted for. There will be some details to establish about the dash and headunit that you've acquired, so Tom will be in contact with you in due course to take your enquiry further. Meanwhile I look forward to welcoming you to my place for the work to take place on a future date.
Regards,
Ian.

A big thank you to Tom yesterday for his time and patience fixing up my slightly knackered silver A2 “Brad”.

got a new colour DIS, which is excellent as you probably know - nice to see not too many faults in the diagnostics. Also nice to have a display for the trip back around the M25 and A3.
Tim was a true gent, also sorting:
-the door micro switch so I can now fuel up properly
- new door strap
- swapped the door speaker for one with a dome without a pushed in cone
- a rear parking sensor speaker
- a new key and helped refurb the existing key
- sorted out my climate control buttons cannibalising my single din “wrong-un” ebay bargain
- new black air vent surrounds, install new working cup holders
- a new tool holder in the back to fit around the battery correctly

its been a busy weekend with a visit to @Kleynie on Saturday for a fantastic OSS fix, with a ride in his new TT (S) and Irma. The only problem is since buying a car with a pano roof I seem to have turned in to a rain god!

car getting there, had a new boot floor delivered for £10 black not twist, but a bargain is a bargain ! And easier to keep clean and also come with a black luggage cover if anyone needs one.

Time to stop spending…

cheers
Rich
