Tinted windows help - 30% < / >

I dont understand all this light, reflection jargon to do with tints, I'm told my rear tints are about 35 so I want the same on the front to match, I am just looking at insurance for this and is this the correct option to choose.

Windows - Tinted < 30%

If I choose Windows - Rear Darkened > 30% or Windows - Front Darkened > 30% it adds a stupid amount to the quote. I saw a car yesterday where you couldn't see inside at all it because the tints was so dark, you could only see through the windscreen. My ones are not like that :D

I was told by the tint company who did my rears that the fronts on the A2 are already up to the legal limit as standard?, but I've seen many times on road wars etc on TV where the traffic cops have pulled people for the fronts been over the limit ( they have a machine that goes on both sides of the glass and shines a beam through to measure % ) and made them peel it off there & then!! I know you can go as dark as you want from the B pillar back but not the fronts.

Windscreen (75% after April 1985) and front windows must pass 70% of light. Ie a 25% tint max for widscreen (post '85) and 30% for the front side windows.

If you like it dark, why not buy a panel van?

There is a current VOSA campaign to address this issue. If the tint rules are broken the vehicle does not commply with construction and use regs. therfore may not be insured.

AFAIK, the A2 has standard 75% tint, meaning that 75% of the light is free to pass through. That's what gives the windows that greenish look.
In most countries, a 75% to 73% is acceptable, meaning it's pointless to tint the front windows if you want to remain legit.
Having the opensky that "opens up" the interior light wise, i went for a 15% tint on the rear windows and a 35% tint on the front ones (yes, i'm a law breaker now:D). On the rear i have all the legal papers, and on the front i decided to risk it. I left the tailgate and the opensky with the standard factory blackish tint, and it's enough. It allows you to still use the main mirror.
Hopefully, tomorrow i'll be able to post some pictures regarding the tinting.

Richard -

Where did you get your rear windows tinted done or where they done when purchased. ??

Was thinking of getting them done once I have the car, but was also looking at the WindowSox as an alternative. Has anyone used these on their A2 ??

PS. Are your photos taken in the vicinity of Haslar ??

WindowSox are different, there is another alternative clip on blind/tints. Yeah pictures taken in haslar in gosport.

The previous owner had the tints, I was looking at south coast tints they have a sensor what can tell you what tint you have on, so may visit there one day to have some on the front
